Where you are brought up as a child does a lot to influence your identity and world view. She was born in Mexico, studied there and is now working abroad in a field she would have no chance excelling back home. You are what you think, for that reason she is Mexican.

Lupita mwenyewe amesema she is Kenyan.@ Mukiha has explained nationality, ancestry etc. Why is this so complicated? She does not think she is Kenyan, amesema she is I am happy

I don't know of any Kenyan Indian, i.e. Indians of Kenyan descent.... By birth she is Mexican!!! Born in Mexico doesn't make one Mexican! Mexico is a country, Mexican is a nationality. Lupita holds Kenyan passport and Kenyan ID. She's Kenyan....by nationality and ancestry. Obama, on the other hand is fully American and half-Kenyan by ancestry.....but he remains African (not Kenyan!!) American If Lupita is Kenyan, then Obama is also Kenyan ('curiously' sitting in the American Whitehouse - Tea partyists could be right). You cant interpret one case in one way and the other in another way. Lupita is Kenyan. Like @mukiha said, she holds a Kenyan ID and Kenyan passport. Does that compare to Obama? Then why do Mexico lay claim to her? Portfolio: Sold You know you've made it when you get a parking space for your yatcht.

Let it be that she is Kenyan. On thinking part - I hold that her diary is so full that thinking Kenyan is at the rock bottom of her priorities and her career trajectory at the top. Regrettably for some of us, her being Kenyan is at the top of our considerations, her career nowhere near. Really there is nothing much for Kenya here other than ‘’bragging’’ rights.

So what did i miss in your post? The issue is not career, thoughts, dreams etc...the question is,what is her nationality. As for bragging rights,I am not sure what to answer..... I did not know Lupita before the movie! The price of fame is that you become kind of public property....that is why this discussion is happening-hours discusing the nationality of someone who has already clarified nationality yake ni ipi. I exit. I am happy

You should know people. She was born in Mexico, came back to Kenya when she was less than one year old. At 16 years, she went back to Mexico to learn Spanish for a few months. So whichever way you look at it, Even her thinking cannot be Mexican. So if 'where you are brought up as a child does a lot to influence your identity', then she's everything Kenyan. The Americans have their democratic right to choose a Kenyan as their president. And the Mexican con claim any Kenyan as their citizen. Lupita was born in Mexico, where her father was a lecturer and they moved to KE when he got a job at UoN. She moved back to Mexico aged 16 to learn Spanish and eventually relocated to US where she still lives (Brooklyn) In all instances she is Kenyan born in Mexico but she will soon be American naturalised. How do i know all this, i have met Lupita through her cousin Isis Nyongo - Madison in NY sone time in 2012 (do i say - maybe i should upload a selfie lol) Level headed girl clearly going places and hugely talented but dont expect any less from a Yale graduate. The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it is to act with yesterday's logic.
