kinda reminds me of the story Ndamiano gives about a certain white man who came looking for dogs to for sale coz he had discovered a cure for AIDS.

disclaimer : if you don't understand kyuk - get a kyuk to interpret for you. the lesson is universal.

Kenya needs to find solutions to its earthly problems elsewhere. Not in quail birds or miracle crusades. Both are escapist and like the bewitching music of Pied Piper of Hamelin, will lead to disappointment.

Any promise of quick fixes, by any leader, businessman, prophet or a charlatan is what Karl Marx (1818-1883) warned of when he said: “Religious suffering is at one and the same time, the expression of suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world and the soul of soulless conditions.”

captures it succinctly!

I don't think this article is of truth about the Kenyan masses or culture @masukuma. And don't be quick to judge the Kenyan masses, or be too harsh.

If you really care about your brothers and sisters then the way forward is coming up with loving solutions.

Doing. 'Praxis'.

too much gnosis. what can teh religious guy do to escape his suffering. at least "the sigh" prevents them from giving up and committing suicide or stealing. religious is the greatest pressure valve we have in society, a fact that even if one is a non-believer they cannot dispute. the secular world has counsellors and psychiatrists.. An oppressed individual goes to church and prays meditates wails weeps shouts out their problems and desires and come out less pressurized and their sanity improved, knowing that their problems have been heard and will be addressed. too much ujuaji analysis is what ails Kenya no practical solutions just tearing apart the society gloat over it, laugh at it, accept and move on

as someone once said - "I've been rich and I've been poor. Rich is better".

someone also said - politics is getting votes from the poor and money from the rich by promising each of these two groups protection from the other!

You can have no doubt about who defines politics. Like the person you are quoting, who does he represent? Notice how he takes poverty as a given. I am poor, and roughly clothed and hungry and insecure. Is it my lot to be so? Karma? Yet the gates of heaven are wide open!

All this is pseudo politics. For example, those who don't have religion as a vent, do they have some other kind of vent? Or are they ventless?

I know their vent. The poor, unenlightened masses living in the gulags. Laughing at them, spiting them. Quit poking our nose @masukuma. And by the way, if all you can do is rage against the masses, yourself, then you must be living in another gulag camp.

@tycho - i suspect that i have touched a raw nerve. let me start over! the reason I wrote what I wrote is for us to understand the place of TIME in all things not to poke the noses of Kenyans but rather to understand that

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in

to urge us to 'pay the price' for our children. the tangent on religion was something else.
