Well, the truth is that equipment breaks in aircraft,...most airlines have a poor maintenance record, so they are only replaced during a major service cycle or if the aircraft flies to strictly regulated airspace like the EU where cavalier attitudes to maintenance can get the airline banned.
Without proper tech support, it is not really that difficult to imagine landing at the wrong airport.
