Thika road..!! Its a very big mess. Starting from as far as safari park. Four lanes full of cars. Now thats how you know there is a big problem! The super highway was meant to minimise these jam if not to end it

The only solution is a Syokimau-like tram with a more enhanced schedule. Hakuna njia ingine. Its' gonna get worse when Outer Ring road pours four lanes onto the superhighway in addition to all those residences coming up in Thika, Ruiru, Juja and along the by-pass.

Roads do not reduce traffic congestion, unless well thought out, designed and executed.

Oh I forgot , our bad road culture needs to change, which sadly will not happen ....just yesterday saw a heltz driving school car change lanes without indication ....how ironical.

I watched a show yesterday and they claimed in Bombay there are 450 new cars on the road daily.

I have been there, and they have jams, but those jams move, unlike ours!

Its all about public transport, well managed traffic light system and parking.

Methinks we need more people to grow some warus and ride motorcycles, scooters, bicycles to work! NB: Don't ride like bodabodas or the speed bike guys, just ride to get to work. I spotted a woman on a scooter yesterday along the very notorious nyayo-bunyala-town stretch which is the culmination of southB, MBA rd, Langata rd traffic. she probably saved herself 2 hours and tonnes in fuel money per year.

Yes this is the solution. We need a different mindset. Thats how other developed countries avoid congesting cities. Roads alone wont help achieve this. Its time people embrace other means of transport. And let the government support by building cycling lanes along all super highways and inside the city.

During SK days, there was someone who was very articulate on the issue of building Super Highways all leading to Nairobi City Center. I can't remember that thread.

Maybe its time someone revived that thread.

I find it illogical that during my kiash days, the primary mode of transport was rail and that kaprobox was just for show during weekends. In Kenya, rail is like punishment.

With all roads leading to one center, it will soon crack and these cars are becoming cheaper by the day.

Just saw a car company advertising for 100k down 20k a month cars. Guess what, everyone else will do the same and that Thika Super Highway will become Gridlock Central Highway.

If they had asked me, I'd have suggested that we spend all that money in improving the railway link between Thika and Nairobi.

The problem is not the size of the road; it is the number of cars using it. The way to reduce this number is to provide an good alternative to road transportation.

Watch this space: as soon as the expanded highway is opened, the traffic jams will return. Simple reason being that people will have moved from Nairobi to Thika enmase

Have you seen the developments going on along this highway...all waiting for it to open?
