I heard from a source that by the end of the year, the ga'arment will be requiring KRA Tax Compliance Certificates for individuals at the airports before one can fly.

Anyone with more info on this?

Is it a practice in any other country?

I was at KRA when Matiang'i said he will suggest this to the govt. KRA was on that day launching an ICT product n so he hoped the KRA records could be digitally connected with immigration so that if you are being cleared to travel the first condition would be that you must have cleared with KRA. I never heard of it again but I dont know how it can be implemented.

So in future, for you to pass through any airport in Kenya you must have tax compliance certificate? How will that work?

ok what's the purpose?
Is it meant to nab tax evaders or mikoras since mikoras also pay taxes to KRA.

...Another misguided directive a la "payments in public transport shall be cashless".
So how is this to work? Are travellers to fill in another tedious form for assessment by KRA before they travel? How long is the window of compliance? Current tax year or all time? Will they go digging in warehouses for archived tax returns forms for comparisons against tax received in the years past? What is the processing time for this compliance certificate to be issued? And if they are not able to process in time or there is a dispute and the small window of opportunity is lost (as is usually the case with the need for international travel?)
I hope this is not true because this govt is proving to be very incompetent. In addition to odious and costly visa and travel requirements for international travel, we do not need KRA wedging its fat incompetent ass into the process making things for Kenyans even more complicated. I can see people losing business because bureaucracy will ensure you do not get a certificate in time to exploit a time-sensitive opportunity. How much of the tax evasion hole are they hoping to plug by this? Ridiculous.
We are entering dangerous waters here where KRA's and other govt drones need to extract money from an already overtaxed small bracket is getting out of hand and will do very serious damage.

I'll treat this as a rumour for now because only an absolute idiot would come up with such a policy.
