Hi guyz, anyone with any idea on a cheaper means of importing products from the u.s. Currently I only know of U.S.P.S on www.usps.com who import via posta here in kenya. The items for import are electronics like pcs, laptops, tvs etc. Let's share our knowledge and empower ourselves. Thanks.

@ Tin- man

I must say this is a tough one and I am also grappling with it. costs are hefty.

You might want to consider ocean freight if you intend to ship bulky items/or in bulk. I googled up one company that seems to have a Kenyan connection http://nilecargocarrier....csreq/kenyashipping.htm and you can check them out. I have not used them yet though.

@Tin-Man,

i would have been happier if your thread was headed'Cheap way to export products to the US' That way we woud help build the Kenyan economy(AGOA?) rather than the US one.....

Checked out the suggested websites. Bongous is more expensive than even usps. But the rest are aait. I think now if we can get someone who has actually dealt with either nile cargo carrier,kenyashiplinking.com or any other cargo handler from u.s,they give us info about the credibility of these guys. Thanks to all of you. Lets share the knowledge.

i have used expolanka and we never fought. check their site http://www.expolankafrei...ional_offices/kenya.htm

but the best way would be to talk to the somalis who have dominated this game in the last few years. what they will advice you is to use whatever shipping agent you have in u.s,who will forward the goods to their offices in dubai, then they will forward the goods to you in kenya and you can collect them at eastleigh. the somalis are the cheapest since they charge per kilo and you don't have to face the dreaded customs at JKIA. check their contacts below and give them a buzz. good luck mate,i know it's a tough old game.

Try the dhl easyshop service. U get a us addres and when u shop online n send ur stuff there,it is automaticaly sent to kenya n u clear shipping charges @ dhl office when it arrives.
Am curious about usps n posta, what addres do u use if u dont hav a p.o box,n also if u do have a p.o box do they call u when ur package arrives?

Cheap way for bulky stuff is ocean freight but it would take you aprx 60 plus days from US.
One can ship anything from anywhere in the world but cheap has it's own disadvantages.
Just ask for a good/fair price not cheap! You don't want to lose your cargo or let it take 4 months to arrive because of cheap ocean carriers that waste time at transhipment ports.
Airfreight is the same.Don't risk booking cargo on very cheap flights and end up losing cargo all the time.Check track record first.

Can recommend the following O/F carriers,
MSC/CMACGM/MAERSK/ECULINE(for lcls)HANJIN/EVERGREEN(very good rates).
Check routing to confirm the ports plied by each in US.

For O/F US, I use MSC cz of contract which means good rates.

One more thing, you can request your supplier to drop the cargo at the port of loading, instead of requesting an agent/carrier to do it because they will mark up on the carriage cost which will in turn affect your price.

Just rem that everyone you encounter wants to make profit out of your cargo.smile

What do u want from Europe? And where in Europe?
Latvia,Moldova,UK,Ukraine,Netherlands where?
We have offices/partners in all countries.

And just before I forget, please ensure that your cargo is pre-inspected at origin before shipping.
The Certificate of Conformity-COC is requirement failure to which your goods will undergo inspection on arrival and it may take days and cause delays and unnecessary charges .

Always Insist on having the pre-inspection done by your supplier-KEBS website will show you the appointed bodies for each region of the world incase he's clueless.

We have offices in each US state that's why it's easy. Our guys will organize for collection from any location and book upon my/your instructions.

The goods are well tracked both ways and you are kept updated throughout until they arrive at your door.

If you wish to use Ocean, MSC is our preferred carrier from there.

When do you intend to ship? I am on leave till mid Jan and I am avoiding office mails.smile

I don't think it's proper to disclose one's place of work online for 1 or 2 obvious reasons.
@ Maka/Mwatha contact >> arimosa2atgmail.com if you require further infor.
