HOW MAKINI BECAME TOP KCPE SCHOOL
During national exams, the Makini Ngong Road academy is always ranked top and usually indicates it registered less than 30 students for the examination. The school, which has eight streams in Class Eight, registers the rest of the candidates under Makini School.
According to the Education ministry website, Makini Ngong Road Academy registered only 22 candidates for the 2011 KCPE. The 22 scored between 439 and 382 marks, while the Makini School registered 256 candidates who scored between 223 marks and 418 marks. During ranking of schools-primary and secondary-only schools with at least 20 candidates are ranked. LINKBasically, if your kid is in one of these schools and is an average student, he/she will be registered to take exams in the 'others' category in the same school while the clever ones/genius are registered in the "BLUE CLASS" which will make No. 1 in the county and probably country. The 'others' where your child is registered will rank below 100 and sometime 200. This is a scam, unfair competition and a marketing gimmic that gives this schools an unfair advantage over others as most parents will enroll their children there paying hefty fees believing their kids are getting above top quality education - just to end up with Ds and Es. How did the Govt allow this??? BBI will solve it :)

DO all the children under Makini share the same facilities? If yes, sioni chida, parents should make informed decisions!!!! ..."Wewe ni mtu mdogo sana....na mwenye amekuandika pia ni mtu mdogo sana!".

Are you advocating that all school separate the 'brainys' from the average and administer the same exam? What makes you think the average will get the same attention from the teachers while they are not the moneymakers... BBI will solve it :)

Schools are just giving parantes what they want....a high ranking school!!!! I have seen choldren learning in Nairobi registered by their parents in shags just to get the quotas for gishagi schools!!!! ..."Wewe ni mtu mdogo sana....na mwenye amekuandika pia ni mtu mdogo sana!".

The practice is widespread and has even gotten to the villages but at the end of the day all the eligible pupils sit for their exams, it's a cut-throat world!!!! ..."Wewe ni mtu mdogo sana....na mwenye amekuandika pia ni mtu mdogo sana!".

Schools with double registration pamper their thoroughbred high-performers and regard the rest as fees generators. Makini A is for Marketing and recruitment purposes, while Makini B is no different from a public school and serves as an income-generator to scalp parents attracted by the results of a mere 20 candidates.

Rejoinder!!!! Now that the director Makini says that Makini School and Makini Ngong Road Academy are different schools in different compounds, do both schools charge the same fees? (wouldn't it be grossly unfair to charge the same fees in schools which have totally different performance) And are students taught by the same teachers? Do students in the two schools enjoy similar attention by teachers? Are parents aware which makini school A or B their kid is attending?

This thing happens all over...I know of a public headteacher in a village school who has been summoned by the Nyeri Education heads because of this type of things. A local private school usually gives her its average students to register in her school. That way, the private school is left with the bright ones and it shines. The public one also shines coz the average private students performs 'well' in the public schools' standards thus raising the public school's profile. "Win-Win" for the two school heads

I think parents who take their children to these kind of schools know what happens and have accepted the 'tyranny of performance' by choosing to chase academic performance associated with the school name at whatever cost (including cost of deluding oneself).
Not seeing the illegality in having two schools...what would be unfair is to transfer a student forcefully from one to the other.
But beyond the furore...do this kids from these 'scamming' schools perform well in the secondary schools?
Have heard some of them have been so spoon-fed that once in national schools they get lots of challenges keeping up with the rest of the class...not all the students but some.

If so many schools are engaging in this practise then it must be the most effective way of marketing a school but makini which has 1200 students from pre school to college should be in the league of brookhouse and st andrews turi they have over 500 students each and do not use underhand tactics to market their schools.
