footballers have few transferable skills after retirement that is why they should get into sports management or the media jobs
better yet the clubs or fkf could fund their training to become coaches as is the case in other countries

all young people now have the same personality..but i chose knowledge over pop culture

They are mature adults and should be responsible at least. Somebody like Peter Dawo should be earning more if he thinks beyond football

Each football team has 20 - 30 players. how many openings do we have in sports management, media and coaching?

You just don't get it, do you?? Football is [or at least should be] the job. In the other countries football/sports is a full time job - you focus all your energy and time on the sport. how do you expect us to compete as a country if we do it part time?

The sports person should make enough money to live off and invest - just like happens elsewhere. If they unfortunately waste the money, then that's on them!

But then again I think teachers, doctors, nurses etc. should also think beyond their careers instead of complaining about salaries and working conditions!

And this is not rocket science!

If we can clean up football [and other sports] then there is a lot of money to be made! If football is properly managed then we'll have good players [instead of talented individuals "thinking beyond football"] we'll get people back into the stadiums, sponsors, TV deals etc.

If we can get 30,000 people into a stadium [It happens in Tanzania every week!] paying an average of 200/= each, that is a cool 6,000,000/=. Even when you have 15,000 people, that is a cool 3,000,000. Add sponsors - of course businesses/institutions would jump at the opportunity to be associated with a team in a properly run, widely followed league. Then there is TV deals, merchandizing - T-Shirts, Caps, Scarfs etc.

Now how much do you think we would be able to pay players in such an environment. Kshs. 100,000/= per month - easily!!! Heck, even if some players get 50,000/= per month that's a very good start. And that is before bonuses, allowances when you play for the national team etc. And there is always a chance you might end up in a better paying league where your Kshs. 100,000/= a month can easily turn to £100,000/= a month [Or a week if you a really good!!!]. And we haven't even talked about endorsements - from fiatu fyako to Nike!!!

Sports personalities are generally not that sharp and very few are able to transition successfully from sports fame and back to normal life.

Thats why my favourite sports man is the arrogant Floyd money Mayweather. He has sick skills and brains.

Motego, Dawo or Awillo should however not lay the mess that their lives have become on sports administrators or kenyans, everybody carries their own cross. if anything, their fame gave them a better start than many Kenyans out there.

Motego played in the same team with Shollei (CEO Ecom),

Francis Oduor played in the same team with Asibwa (KQ),

Dawo played in the same team with Shikanda (Vet),

wise people would deduce that Kenya is not one of those countries and JIPANGA!! people cannot live their lives expecting goodwill of the society to sustain them in their old age if the path they have taken has not profited anyone before them. if you start practicing F1 today in kenya - don't expect to earn like the worlds' greats.
