Last I checked the Mau Mau fought for independence n land. But mainly WIYATHI, coz those days kyuks lived like caged animals, in concentration camps. Who would give a f*** about property while living in a cage? . Whether some kenyans want to twist this historical fact won't change anything.

Were Maumau there in other countries that gained independence? So the Maumau won the war against the British?Hata kama ni goggles it is okay.

I gave up trying to argue with thimioni. I think he has his own version of reality.

Its the fight in Kenya that made them hand over to the others peacefully.

Even Museveni thanked them during his last speech at Safaricom Stadium. He acknowledhed that the war in Kenya led to peaceful hand over in other xtries.

I can understand the goggles that 'those' people view the mau mau with. Coz it disrupted their privileges as the favoured natives who were benefiting from colonial goodies such as education including scholarships abroad (eg Obama snr etc), and jobs such as trusted servants kwa reli and cooks to colonialists. At the time all of 'these' people were regarded as terrorists and denied all opportunities. Mau mau and subsequent independence disrupted their privileged lifestyle. Also note that they hadn't lost any land to the colonists.

Never thought of it this way. No wonder the protracted and bitter distortion of history.

Let's not go there siblings....but let's be real. There's no way a rag tag guerilla force would have beaten the battle hardened British soldiers with far superior weaponry. Unlike FRELIMO in Mozambique or Ben Bella's movement in Algeria, Mau mau or KLFA never really controlled any area. It was brave for them. It was a great sacrifice. It must have dissuaded Group Captain Briggs and his lot from pulling a UDI...but the war wasn't won with the bullet

Mau-Mau uprising suffered from internal divisions throughout, failing to garner widespread public support; partly due to British divide and rule coupled with Mau-Mau's killing of moderate Africans.

So, rather than create new internal disagreements, I'm quite comfortable respecting both narratives...
1) Prof, kiterunner, mawinder, Ole Lenku version
2) simonkabz, BigChick, jaggernaut version

I must respect @Lolest! courage nevertheless, to objectively interrogate what is on the surface

Ochieng agreed with the notion that Mau Mau was a terrorist organization that caused more misery to the Africans it was purporting to fight for unlike what other historians want us to believe.

Stats from 1952 - 1960 support this notion.

the michukis, muigais, mungais, Kibakis who studied in scotland, oxford, LSE... on scholarships are an inconvenient anomally to this theory

obama went to the states, they did not colonise kenya (at least not yet)

watu wasomange vitabu, sio gazeti tu. The empire was crumbling worldwide.. with or without maumau we were going to get uhuru

our goals are best achieved indirectly
