Equity Funds are a rip off. You can do a lot better by just making sure you read between the lines of wazua posts.

I however use Money Market, used to use Stanbic until I noticed that their returns were one of the lowest in the market, and that Amana MM was consistently 300 points above it. I use MM as a holding area, (temporary storage as I look for opportunities) the advantage being I can call the funds within three days, unlike fixed deposits that lock funds for specific periods, at rates similar to MM.

To open an MM account, carry your identification documents to your preferred manager, do the kyc thing and also give them the disposal bank account - they don't write cheques to you when you cash in, they RTGS to the given account.

I agree, Equity funds are a rip off. I invested with Zimele Equity fund for 6 months from May to Nov this year. While the NSE was charging ahead and share prices were rising almost daily, the value of my investment remained at -5%. I got tired of waiting and finally pulled out. Meanwhile, my own stock picks on the NSE had done +20%. Was very disgusted with them, to say the least. Meanwhile my funds in Amana Capital growth fund had done +10% in the same period.
