All our past presidents would do well to remember that it is we who have forgiven them, allowed them to live in peace instead of bringing charges against them;
None of them were perfect but I single out Moi for mention without fear of antagonising people here. The damage he did to this country was deliberate, deep and far reaching. Ordinary folk around where I grew up were transformed from thriving farmers and businessmen to grinding poverty as local agriculture (coffee, tea, milk) and industry was systematically decimated by state fuelled corruption and outright theft. May be presidents are too removed to contemplate the effects of their malice, policy and misrule, but kids starved, dropped out of school and went without medicine. It is trampling on small people with iron-soled boots; It is something you can't ever forget if you see it first hand. Mr Moi could have been 1/2 of what Mandela was, 1/4 even - and it would have been great - he pissed away the chance playing Machiavellian politics. No one rules forever. In the end being a politician counts for nothing, being a leader is what makes future generations remember.
