I've been thinking of making some contributions to a children's home, and I have tried a few selection methods like 'pinky pinky ponky', and casting bones, but I have always been thrown back by the knowledge that some of these homes are places where dishonest managers and workers use children for their own private benefit.

Then I remembered that you've been telling us of your good work and establishment of a childrens' home. Is this 'project' still on?

A question(in good faith AKA Helmet), are the children there taught the fear of the Lord?

Thanks for your concern tycho. Much appreciated. Project is still on albeit with a few hitches here and there but if you understand the "kuja kesho" culture in Kenya you will kmow what i mean. This is the deal, if you want to make a contribution, you are most welcome. I don't like to handle cash because it brings so many issues and am not one to deal with allegations that always come up when dealing with money. How about you send me your email address and i can give you directions to where you can take donations? Food, beddings, clothes etc are all welcome. If you want to make a difference tycho, you should think about visiting whenever you have a chance instead of just sending money. It's more purposeful when you can contribute time to help around the project instead of the easier option of just sending money. Please let me know.

No Mukiri, when the children finally get in here, i will not bother teaching them religion. That's up to them, if they want to be Christian, Muslim, Atheists etc, that's entirely up to them. My work is to make sure that they at least have a roof over their heads, food in their belly, clothes on their backs and a chance to get some education. Everything else is secondary. It's not easy and i know i am taking on a huge responsibility but thanks to some friends, it's becoming more and more of a possibility everyday.

Mukiri, these kids don't really need all that religious stuff, what they need is food, compassion and love. The world does not revolve around your gods, there are more important things at stake. There is a lot of kids suffering out there in the streets and it seems like your lord doesn't see this suffering or maybe he just doesn't care, but whatever, if he is too busy to help these kids out, some of us will try our best to at least save a few from starving to death. Kids are innocent, they can't fend for themselves, society should make it a priority to see that no kids die of hunger. It should be at the top of the list of things to do of every adult the world over. Your lord doesn't care, he is too busy sending people to burn in hell for eternity. How effed up are his priorities?

A good thing you are doing. I also try in my own small way. And yes, we had a discussion recently about the priorities of society.

As for your question, I'm sure you'll have your chance to ask Him in 'person'. I think it is a good thing that you'll let them decide religion for themselves, hopefully after exposing them to ALL of them?

I've been thinking about your response @Hamburglar, and I have a number of questions for you. I hope you don't mind.

The reasons that make you not to take cash: what are they?

Tycho. Down the road maybe we will take cash. As for right now, we are still in the infancy stages. If we start taking money now and we are not set up yet, iit might present a problem with perception from the people who give us the cash. People like to see resullts and if we keep the money in the bank while we are still figuring things out, ipeople might not understand our action. So to prevent all that, we would rather do things step by step. I don't want people to think that we took their money for our own use. Things have to be set up before we can take that step, if we will even go there. Money is a very sensitive subject.

This project is just something that myself and a few American friends of mine who i visited Kenya with in 2010 came up with. It's not one of those Save the Children kind of organization that is known worldwide. After seeing the poverty and plight of these children, my friends and i decided to try and do something small and that is what we are working on.

So, to answer your question, i would rather not take any money now because we still need to figure out a lot of things. Maybe we will down the road maybe we won''t, we will play it by ear. But thank you for showing a lot of interest in this noble venture of ours, i will shoot you an email and maybe someday you can help us in one way or another.
