Yes but still trucks will be required since the cargo still needs to be moved from the railway stations.. again the convenience and cost reduction will impact the economy directlysmile smile

Even when mobilephones came pple protested about loosing jobs at telkom kenya and in reality mobile communication created more employment opportunities indirectly. If the trains renders 300 trucks jobless per day u can calculate the savings in foreign exchange to import fuel and spare parts will run to millions this money will be channelled to other sectors, and investors will move to other businesses.

Very long overdue. These trucks are normally a nightmare particularly around Salama area. Wish they had their own roads.

I look for that time where I will be able to transport my 40 ft empty container from Mombasa to Nairobi and pay only 5K instead of the colossal amount charged by akina Bayusuff and Sons!

accidents and some long queues along the road will decrease so fewer deaths. etc

Why spend 6 hours by bus while you can use the train for 4.5 hours and will be a safer bet with a better view.

They should build stations in all the major towns..

Its a game charger in almost all aspects..

I pray they can pull this off.

My biggest worry is getting the wayleaves as I understand that the new rail will not replace the current line. If the wayleave hustle at Cabanas and Bomas is anything to go by, we are in for a long wait.

with the 1.5% RDL for all imports they should be able to buy out wayleaves easy.

@ZZE and GG what you dot com generation may not the entire rail from Mombasa to kampala to Pakwach has a natural way leave of 25m on either side. Occassionally that has been expropriated to construct roads. There should be no problem. That is why in Kibera they are funding a relocation because of the hullabaloo it would raise chasing away wananchi from the railwayleave.
