Pole kwa kuchelewa.
Pre-eclampsia is a medical condition charaterized by elevated blood pressure and presence of proteins in urine (proteinuria) during pregnancy. It can occur during the second half of the pregnancy or soon after childbirth.
It is thought that a woman's immune system plays a role in causation of preeclampsia. It often is postulated that a mother's immune system reacts to the implanting placenta in much the same way as an organ-recipient's body reacts to the transplanted organ; in this case causing the placenta to be shallowly implanted. A shallowly implanted placenta then becomes hypoxic, causing release of chemicals that act on maternal blood vessels resulting in vasoconstriction and subsequent rise in blood pressure.
All this, according to the article, is thought to be partly induced by some 'paternal factors' in the developing infant. Remember the infant inherits half of his/her genetic material from either of the parents. Therefore, it follows (according to the article) that if the lady was somehow exposed to some of these paternal particles e.g. via oral sex (mc-eeing the event, kutuma salamu, etc) then her immune system would become tolerant to the paternal antigens and hence reduce chances of the immune reaction to the fetus occurring, which immune response is postulated to eventually lead to preeclampsia, itself capable of progressing into eclampsia (characterized by seizures in pregnancy) if inappropriately managed.
Hope we're together now pal.
Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.
