“Kenya Power will benefit from the tariff review though they did not get everything they had asked for in their application,” said Cyprian Nyakundi, a manager at the Energy Regulatory Commission. The increments however come as bad news for consumers, especially industrial users whose production costs will rise by large margins – further eroding the competitiveness of locally produced goods in the regional markets. The Business Daily on Tuesday established that electricity prices will rise by between 17 per cent and 25 per cent in December, eating deeper into household budgets and pushing up the cost of locally manufactured goods. the deal wrote:Like I said you are high on bang to be posting what you are posting....end of this discussion. @deal dont get carried away by the headlines. Most of these journalists dint expect this hence the mix-up in news read this..... In the announcement, ERC directed that Kenya Power charges Sh15.51 per unit of electricity as a base tariff starting December 1, 2013 to June 2014, down from Sh15.59 per unit that has been charged before this review.
“As a regulator, our work is to ensure that Kenya Power charges prudent tariffs and, during the review, we have thoroughly discussed these figures with them. If they (Kenya Power) charge anything more than that, they will be in complete violation of the law,” said Mr Fredrick Nyang, acting director general of ERC.........Kenya Power could not immediately comment on the new tariffs as it requested for additional time to “consult”.
By June 2015, the tariff will drop to Sh13.44 and Sh12.66 per unit of electricity in the two subsequent financial years to June 2016.
The 2015 and 2016 review will result in a general decline in cost of power across the board, with heavy industries enjoying the largest cut of up to 16 per cent."There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. The problem is you hope when you should fear & fear when you should hope: - Jesse Livermore .

I think you guys should factor in the effects of another US government shutdown come Jan/Feb 2014. Also, markets may not react positively to another absurd rise in the debt ceiling.

I'm still in a cash position holding out as December came. The market is defying odds in some way. 1. How many Wanjiku's are in it? I was anticipating a continued lull in prices as a sell off to pay for holidays and January school fees. 2. Add the President's moves on the ICC. Happy he has coooperated so far regardless of the African Union nudges. Have we successfully divorced politics and the NSE?..
