Confession of a ghost worker paid for 30 years

Nairobi, Kenya: For the first time in 30 years, a 54-year-old shopkeeper will not get a salary from the Nairobi County Government.

Instead, David Kinuthia is hoping against hope that he will not be jailed for receiving a monthly pay for 360 months without doing any work for the defunct City Council of Nairobi (NCC) for a single day.

In the days of NCC, Kinuthia was employed as a shopkeeper by one of the council’s senior officers.

However, instead of being paid by his boss from the shop’s coffers, his name was sneaked into the council’s payroll, where he drew a salary every month.......he had been getting a salary of Sh11,300 per month over the years, was a ghost supervisor in the Housing and Social Services Department....... “I am an old man who had one year left ‘to retire’ and I do not want to rot in jail. I have been drawing a salary of Sh11,300 per month for three decades,” said the long serving ghost worker........Going by his current salary, this means that for 30 years, the old man has pocketed about Sh4,068,000 from the council instead of being paid by his employer.

Many high profile Kenyans couldn't resign from their jobs even when caught with hand in the cookie jar(Remember Kimunya?).Here is an "honest" man who has opted to "resign" a year to his "retirement".God forgive us all!!Liar Sad Pray

very sad indeed. I just wonder how many ghost teachers, policemen, soldiers etc are still out there receiving 'salaries' in the various ministries and parastatals.

The shop owner who entered his name in the payroll and the ghost both have a case to answer.

They should do public community service.-Sweep the whole of haile selassie from marikiti market to the roundabout where the petrol station is every day for the next 30 yrs.
This work should be carried out while wearing reflector jackets labelled 'Change is real,From Ghost to real workers.

Happens all the time in various ministries. You resign today and hand in your resignation letter that somehow doesn't get forwarded but is instead 'sat on' for several months, all the while your name being retained in the payroll, meaning someone other than you is collecting that money monthly.
Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

kwani it is a crime to receive money, that is legally what can the man be charged with - it was not his doing that caused him to be on the payroll.

I thought so too. It's up to the managers and supervisors to sack a worker who doesn't report to work.
Ghost worker is when the managers and supervisors keep names in the payroll that don't exist and "eat" those salaries
Politics is just things to keep the people divided and foolish and put your trust in men and none of them can do nothing for you...
