In a notice published yesterday, UK-based REA Trading Limited (Reat) announced its intention to wholly acquire Rea Vipingo Plantations Limited, a process that will also see Rea Vipingo delisted from the NSE.

This is happening as a trend slowly forms where more listed firms, especially those considered to be under-valued, are opting out of the local bourse. Other big plantations now under scrutiny include Limuru Tea, Sasini and Kakuzi. From East African standard

As I read about Tullow's success in finding oil in multiple drillings, I wonder if some of the mid-size banks may be line for a Takeover (or a Strategic Partner) to provide a conduit for financing the sector. There banks include:

NIC Bank - Small enough to be tasty. Large enough to be filling. Subsidiaries in Tanzania & Uganda.
I&M Bank - It has DEG & Proparco as shareholders with loans from IFC thus it's a known entity. It is not a huge bank (lots of branches or customers) so manageable as a bank for growth firms & High Net Worth Individuals.
Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett
