@Mzee Young,

Did you open the account in Uganda? How are the shares that you bought faring? I am now based in Uganda since June this year. I have since been buying Stanbic Uganda. It is the KCB of Uganda and I think it has some room for growth. Other stocks are very illiquid!

@Pkoli,
Yes I opened account with African Alliance
and i buy purely Ug companies . My portfolio
is made of
Stanbic
Nic
New Vision
Bank of Baroda

and I plan to buy Umeme at lower price in future. I am planning to
take up Nic rights later this nov discounted
at 25% below the current price of ugx 35.
Hope you will have a good experience in Uganda
Are you in Kampala?
Hope we will see some day. You have to
look very long term in Kampala bourse.
Also think of investing in real estate for
rental income as you know buildable plots are
far cheaper than kenya but buy from reputable
estate developers like Akright Properties or
Jomayi estates www.jomayi.co.ug
All the best my good friend thanks for recommending
African Alliance Ug to me.
You can also get direct credit of dividends by
EFT to your nominated bank on UG securities.
I have account with Crane Bank Kampala Road Ug
the HQ branch.

@Young,

Thanks I am based at Kampala. Currently my portfolio is only Stanbic Ug, which I am planning to accumulate up to January 2014. In the medium, I will also be buying Umeme. I doubt the price will ever go below current price. It is trading at a p/e of around 11 and looks to have some reasonable growth potential. I will close the chapter with DFCU. Like I told you the market is very illiquid.

Should you come to Kampala, let me know so that we can have a bell and club in one of these exciting joints.

Thanks for the contact of the real estate. I will first get hold of a lawyer.

Cheers

Thanks @Pkoli, my investment strategy is
to diversify so however good stanbic ug is
i have managed to diversify irrespective of
illiquidity which I manage by waiting for long
up to 2 months before my preferred counter is
bought most cases at market price.

On real estate I suugest Entenbbe Kampala
road settlement as the most promising. The
motivation for this is because
Some day the 49km Entebbe Kampala road
will be expanded to 6 lanes so it is the future
Thika Road in Nairobi.
In addition Entebbe will one day merge in terms
of development with Kampala.
A standard 1/8th mailo plot which in Uganda
terms is calked 12 decimals ranges between
14 million to 25 million Uganda shillings. This
is a lot of money in Uganda terms. In Kenya
it translates to a paltry 500k ksh to 1.0 million
ksh. This is the relative cheapness I am referring
to in the eyes of a kenyan. Besides you are likely
ti pay up to six installments in 6 months.
I bought something similar in late 2009 with
Akright Kakungulu satelite city still located in
Entebbe road at 9 million Ug shillings.
Jomayi has a few on Entebbe road at the momemt. But do your due diligence
before you commit.

@ Urstill1, I guess you are still confused and may need more to these acronyms being given to you.
EPS is Earning per share of each of your investment from the profit delivered at the end of a period.
This is expressed in commerce as Total profit of that period after all expenses and taxes, divided by the number of shares traded or offered for that particular period.
Earning per share is derived when firm or company closes its book for a certain period of time to assess their performance quarterly, semi- annual or annually to determine its position financially.

Thanks @Realtreaty for your ndispensable explanation of EPS. Unfortunately, I had already learnt that some years back. Secondly, EPS is an acronym for many thiings. I provided a link to what I meant and it would be wise to have clicked and understood my problem rather jumping the gun. Thank you once again.

Reminds me of an argument I witnessed between two people on the role of the CBK in the coffee sector. One was refering to Central Bank of Kenya and the other to the Coffee Board of Kenya!

The EPS here is Expanded Poly-Styrene panel, nor Earning Per Share.

@Mukiha, I was very careful when I stated my EPS. If you read I had indicated as per Commerce and not as in civil engineering!!!! If you do not tell the source them it could also mean "Error Pacified Syndrome" in Healthcare!!
