Yes and no!

It all depends on the company that manufactures the drugs - not all companies are good and not all generic companies are bad!

I am a patriotic kenyan and i do buy products from this company ... http://ucl.co.ke/about-ucl/who-we-are ...... when i need them for consumption.

They are a kenyan company and the only W.H.O pre-qualified in East, west and central africa.

To me this means their standards are as good as for any multinational originator company!

They only problem with indian / chinese companies is that even the bigger ones have sites which are dedicated to Markets like USA / EU and then they have other sites / factories for poorly regulated markets - africa, middle east, asia etc.

That is why you will find at times that the manufacturing site maybe different for the same company.

For vision 2030, buy kenyan, build kenya .... as long as our own companies can match the quality ..... why should i buy European / American??

That is why africa is still behind ..... unless an item is made in america ... most americans consider it inferior .... very patriotic ....

That is why we should be patriotic enough to build our own country ....


Universal Corporation Ltd - a kenyan company is the way to go .....

It has been in the news recently for all good news ...

FYI - am not their PR stooge ..... but truth is truth ....

now cheapest pharmacy .... also consider mumbi house Pharmaceuticals along the route to tea Room from Archieves .... they have good prices!

Not really. I guess what you are insinuating (all their products are genuine if you have been doubting). They supply to almost 80% other pharmacies in town (what may be regarded as good).

Transchem is one of the cheapest if not the cheapest pharmacy in Kenya.

The have branches in Mumbi house, Development house and Opposite Jeshi at OTC.

Their wholesale is situated in the Uchumi super stalls building.


Yes that explains their pricing.I had a discussion with the Transchem founder(RIP)some years back on why some of the wholesalers are slowly driving the retailers out of business by their pricing to the final consumers.His argument was the retailers will get supplies on credit and then take ages to pay while others even default sometimes ending up in expensive legal suits,while when selling directly to the public the payment is at the point of purchase hence better cash flow and less headaches following up on payments...he went on if pharmaceutical retailers paid COD,they would not have considered dealing directly with the public.
The PPB have had this issue raised with them but obviously the wholesalers still find a way around it.
The retailers especially in the CBD have to compete with their own suppliers for the final client.Obviously their margins and turnover get squeezed,to survive get innovative like get company accounts or other ways to get more business or ship out...my worry is that some may go the unethical way and the results disastrous to the patients.
For the consumers i am sure they will take the current set up any day,for the profession a frank discussion is needed among all members.

To sustain those below wholesale prices, patients are receiving placebos for their ailments. Briefcase suppliers are the norm resulting in a very sizeable percentage of drugs being counterfeited. Most counterfeited drugs are the branded........its safer using the local generics from such WHO certified local manufacturers as Universal than the expensive branded drugs. True, a frank discussion and soul searching amongst the pharmacy profession, and a total overhaul of the regulator is urgently needed.
