Too many on the street. I know . I need to jump into this water mineral water bottling biz ? Any success on this ( or had your fingers burned) please advice me. Also any info on bottled water selling outside Nairobi or Mombasa. Hurdles? Where to get machines for filling localy. Question: what is your favourite water and why?

keringet or aquamist anytime are my favourite brands- direct from the supermarkets. this biz is flooded with so many fakes. i was in coasto recently and when i bought 'dasani' from some vendors on the roadside,the water was salty with some floating impurities,but i had already lost my cash to the swindlers! i have this buddy who started bottling and distributed the water himself,he got successful initially but the fakers jumped in as usual with anything popular. my buddy could travel far and wide in places like Voi and find his water there,faked and distributed there by bandits. you guessed it right,he was out of biz in under one year and suffered massive losses. don't forget this is after investing in bottling machines,packaging,Kebs,weight and measures,kra etc. the fakers are good and make their dodgy brand look even better than yours! ask yourself this,why would clubs,hotels and restaurants want to buy and stock your water and not so many other brands available to them? if you can come out with an answer to that question,you will have probably cracked it!

I only drink Keringet,Mt Kenyan and Dasani. The other waters are not bottled at source.They are from the tap.The difference is an at source water drinker will recognise at-source water from its taste.They taste differently.Fortunately,most kenyans drink to quench thirst only,but not for anything else.And most kenyans will not differentiate at-source water with tap water.

@Ali

If you look for water bottled at source,then you are wrong with mt.Kenyan and Dasani. Mt. Kenyan is bottled at dagoteti corner (source !!!!!!!!!!!) Dasani is tap water

@shifta wants to get into water biz and is asking for experiences in bottling and distribution oustide Nairobi and Mombasa. It is not what brand you like or dislike.

keringet and aquamist claim to be the only pure natural MINERAL water in kenya bottled at source from some underground springs. that is at keringet near molo and sigona respectively. most of the other brands like dasani are just normal water that has been purified and treated but still very safe. it's an offence to claim that your brand is pure mineral water if it's not! hope that is clear before you start your biz. good luck

Dasani is NOT tap water; it is borehole water....treated and filtered and bottled. Since the borehole is at the bottling factory,one can argue that it is also bottled at source!! But it is not 'spring water'.

I drink NCW&SC tap water....I filter it using one those candle filters available in the supermarkets. This takes away the silty [yes,SILTY,not SALTY] taste and brings out the refreshing taste of the Abadare springs.....

NB: don't waste your gas boiling tap water. It adds not benefit and ruins the taste!!

...but here is an idea to counter the fakes:

Suppose you approach an outlet [say,one of the supermarkets] and you give them exclusive distributorship. Then you print on the bottle that this water is only available from XYZ...with a bold warning saying something like 'IF YOU DID NOT BUY THIS BOTTLE FROM XYZ,THEN IT IS NOT GENUINE AND WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS QUALITY'

STONEMIMI....Dasani is not tap water.It maybe borehole water....and that serves the purpose.Mt Kenyan.....It maybe bottled from dagoretti,from borehole/tap?Or faked?The only one time I took,it tasted fine.Unlike all other water which is from the tap.By the way,new research says that there is very little difference between tap water{treated of course} and mineral water.So,think.Do we really need mineral water????

Dasani is Nairobi water and sewerage co water bottled by coke after maybe filtering and sterilizing.

The boreholes in the vicinity of the coke factory have high fluoride levels and it is expensive to remove the fluoride,so do not be lied to that coke is bottling borehole water.

@majimaji & @ Ali Baba:

Dasani is borehole water. They have a purification system.

I was once called in to fix some problems in the production line and I saw it...kwa macho yangu....and then fixed it!!!
