Car importion! Only God knows. Hotels will always serve the fruits/vegs of the season. In stocks,ur duty as a trader is to identify the HOTshare of the season. The opposite of courage is not cowardice, it's conformity.

Exactly as stated - C&F - Cost and Freight. Its a price quoted by seller for shipment... does not include insurance charges, but includes all expenses up to port of destination. Eg Mombasa. As opposed to CIF (cost,insurance,freight).......

@Tokyo. the biggest mystery is kra valuation b4 loading import & excise duty. Could u shed light in relation to cif for a 2k2 car? Hotels will always serve the fruits/vegs of the season. In stocks,ur duty as a trader is to identify the HOTshare of the season. The opposite of courage is not cowardice, it's conformity.

The KRA valuation is dependent on make,model,engine capacity and of course year of manufacturing/registration. For example,the duty for a 1500cc Toyota,Nissan,Subaru etc will differ because the showroom value is different.

@reithi,
I suppose whether the engine is diesel or petrol also determines the duty payable?
However,what I have never understood is where KRA get the show room figures from because for e.g all 2002 cars imported into the country presently are not available as new in Kenya show rooms i.e production of the models ceased!

Weee
3300 is it FOB or CIF??
For Example
CIF 3300 Nissan Sunny FB15 Registered June 2002 would be approx
Duty = 140K,DO=5K,KPA = 12K
But Currently the rules are changing as Motor vehicle importers will be required to use invoice value which always higher than the CRSP since the latter isn't recognised by WTO as a basis of valuation which is according to WTO price actually paid or payable.

@ Chaka
A diesel and petrol engine with similar engine capacity will attract different amounts of duty,because as I said,the showroom values are different.
Since the vehicles are no longer in production,KRA uses the price of a similar model today.

forget about cif/cf/fob. Duty is determined by retail price of a new similar model in a showroom in Kenya. Then mnus depreciation 0-6 moths- 5% to 7-8 yrs -70%.Figure you get helps to calculate the duty/customs. I once complained to KRA that they should calculate using retail price in Japan which is cheaper than Kenya but they rejected.Meaning there is double taxation. @ Jerry giv me the car model and yr of manuf. will calculate duty payable.if its more than +- shs 10,000 nitanunua nyama,if not ununue nyama na tusker- will be their soon.deal?? work to prosper
