Trainee dealer is a very hard one to get... But what I did was to apply as a credit analyst in the bank first and then made friends with the head of treasury.. All I had to do was display my passion for finance and markets and I was In at the first opening...

So if you are willing to start with less just take the leap!

Private equity is just too hard right now... These ones are got through phone calls and lunch dates!!

Thanks. So like to be a credit analyst, what qualifications does one need? Or to be in private equity. Does a basic degree in Finance count or do i have to be an MSc. or CFA?

Thanks

Good afternoon Chief Madam Guru,
I noticed in another thread that you work for NIC.
My broker is NIC Securities, here in Kenya. However, as much as they are prompt in making my transactios they are very passive, they do not attempt to advice for or against any decision I make. The good deals I have made have been sorely through the advise of Guru's like you, vitu vingi, stockmasters etc here in Wazua. No deliberate intervention by NIC. Is it supposed to be like that, or would you suggest someonesmile ?

These days banks only want ACCAs and CPAs doing credit analysis!

To be in private Equity Msc. Finance or any Finance professional course eg CFA or CSIA!

@Wodergirl I personally have never been advised by a broker and I don't think its the norm unless you ask for the advice...

My broker though sends me research reports with BUY, HOLD & SELL recommendations on various stocks via email...

A brokers advice should be taken with a pinch of salt as most of them are running unit trusts and are repeatedly recommending only stocks they hold Sad

What about a research/investment analyst trainee/intern? I'm more interested with issues that deal with the stock market.

@nesta: Networks, internships and or a job that can get your foot in the door.Don't look for a big salo at entry level, look for a job that can take you into a dealing room or investment team. The money will come thereafter NOT at the time of entry
