Interesting. KQ is already past 1H for 2013-14 but I haven't seen any moves on the following. On the other hand they do have 5.5 months left in the current financial year.

Kuala Lumpur 3x on 767-300
Bangalore 3x on 787
New Delhi on 767-300 [Flight timetable shows 737-700]

I want KQ to succeed but IMHO, they are expanding too fast too soon using large amounts of debt.

@Obiero am sold on this one already for the long haul, boarding tomorrow. The Airline business has been tough for some time and the narrow body fleet strategy for the short haul could pay off. Thanks for the info.

@vvs I echo you view, the organization is off rail on its long term strategy blame it on Boeing or whoever you want to but in modern day avaiation, management should build in capacity constraints in their strategy plans. They only have Delhi in the plan, Bangalore and KL are off Sao Paolo and Berlin will probably be off. What is also not highlighted is that as they are missing these milestones their existing routes are getting nibbled away by the competition especially african routes. The narrow body strategy was at the very least 50% forced by competition who just keep making it difficult for KQ to fly wide bodies to certain routes in Africa. At KQ's prime it used to fly a 777 to Lagos via Abidjan/doualla daily, it now does a 737-800 and largely because of range and belly space for the oga traders but in essense it could easily fly a E-190jet there. It also used to fly a 777 to Dubai and back but now flies a 767 which also goes to Bangkok or or at times fly a 737-800 largely for belly space.

Reality is KQ is a very short term technical play, which you keep play around the results and nothing else not even arrival of jets because these jets are debt funded and competition isn't relenting. Days of KQ bringing in a 777 and that translating into revenue and profit jumps are a few years behind us.

I am in but largely for the huge mispricing between 1H14 results and the price. Once that realigns am out soonest. I await the day the BOD and Management can control many more factors in this business before taking a long punt.

Tomorrow, Friday 25th will Kenya Airways’ latest and biggest bird ever take to the air from the Boeing manufacturing plant in Seattle to start the ferry flight home to the airline’s base in Nairobi. The 400 seat aircraft, offering 28 seats in Premier Class and 372 seats in Economy, will after arrival later on Friday be prepared for service at the Embakasi hangar of Kenya Airways, before entering service on 05th November with a planned flight to Guangzhou in China.
