That's the usual highway consumption for a well maintained non-GDI 1500cc Lancer. The things to insists on is that nobody tampers with your fuel sensors,and that right spark plugs are inside; Also never use adulterated fuel-if travelling out of town fill up in Nairobi and if you have to do it again in shags,you will be safest at a National Oil petrol stations which are fairly widely distributed around the country. If you lend your car out to a friend,ensure you brief her before parting with your keys. The recommended plugs are;

DENSO K16PR-U11,NGK BKR5E-11,NGK irriidium IX BKR5EIX-11 or BKR6EIX-11 (for cold locations/season); the latter two will cost you about 4,500 to 5,000 bob but will run for 20,000km.

So for a Lancer CEDIA,which is powered by a GDI engine,17km/litre (on the lower side) is more than possible-It is expected. Go for it If you have the choice,go for the 4G15 series.

Besides fuel,the Cedia it will give you more comfort,a much smoother and powerful road handling than that other KAQ. And the jackers all reason like kabs so none will be interested in your car.

The GDI engine is high performance,not exactly 'hitech'. It is only that many of the mechanics we run to for service e.t.c do not understands them.

The best advice is to avoid instances where you have a breakdown which gives the mechanics a ground for trial and error. This you can do by ensuring right plugs and unadulterated fuel (not necessarily V-Power). Avoid engine washes at all costs. Regular service including change (not blowing) of air filter is needed. If you have to exceed the 5,000km interval,let the extra km be those you count on your journey to the garage.

If the engine has a problem (very rare just like for most maintained cars),insist on coumputer aided diagnostics. Unfortunately,I do not know of any person doing this apart from Lion Colt. And while at it,why not befriend the mechanics at this place?
