hmmm..great responses here, but my research has proved that theas demand , the only problem is irregular supply...leo ziko, kesho hakuna...famers are embracing it...
Though it may seem 'pyramidish', I think if the supply is constant, it will be serious venture in the future!
I need as erious farmer...one with an accessible farm, then I can share my brilliant ideas!

I am listening. I have been very pessimistic about this after the earlier thread's warnings and seeing frustrated farmers

Anyone we take up this rabbit rearing thingy...together- suwabout@gmail.com.
My friend just sold kshs.120,000 to farmer in Bomet, the framer plans to use his farm as the demonstration farm...anyone in Kiambu county-Ruiru we can do this together.
My friend is in touch with gava to see about export business, otherwise he has orders with local hotels but is unable to supply due to inconsistense in availability..
Anyone upto it...

@blackout, yesterday I watched Kilimo Biashara on K24. They had featured Mutua, the owner of Rabbit Republic. I was impressed to the point of changing my views about this sector. He had nice, well constructed hutches. He says he will buy all your stock at 700per kg but he buys them live. He said they do have enough export markets, all you need to do is sell to him. Anybody who knows if this is true?

I watched it too.He said they buy 1kg at 400 bob.

This is quite low compared to how they sell at Nakumatt and other hotels. His profit margin is way high.

If you have enough rabbit supply, you can bypass this middlemen like rabbit republic and sell directly to the end user...at a quite good price.

A rabbit farming venture is a good idea but you must do it seriously. Imagine getting an order to supply Serena and other hotels. You reap millions by just feeding the damn sungura on "wild plants"

Totally worth it.

Soon mimi niko ndani!! totally!!

@faa, 400? Ok maybe I was too tired nakskia zangu. How much does Nakumatt buy from farmers? How about hotels? Me thinks it's ok for Rabbit Republic to buy at that price if it's true they do export and search for such markets.

For once i met some company that processes Rabbit meat at the ASK Nairobi show.BENIDA FOODS. They had displayed varieties of rabbit meat and were also selling at 560 ksh per kg.They said they buy and pay 350ksh for saleable meat per kg.This means they remove skin, head, bowel contents etc.
More information is on their website www.benidafoods.co.ke
This will shed more light on the issue of rabbits and their consumption viz a viz market.
