There is the slasher genre of horror, like Saw, then there is psychological horror, like The Exorcist, which doesn't leave you terrified but stunned and in shock. Which one are you referring to? Personally I prefer psychological horror (or thrillers), they are massively entertaining and they remind you that there are crazed, diabolical people out there and how they think.

The Descent,Amityville,such. Just finished watching the EAGLE-I Love those roman movies with soldiers and nice story line.
