President now directs that owners of psvs will be held equally responsible as the drivers when involved in accidents

How fair is this?

They are not maintaining their vehicles, overworking their drivers, don't know

what happens to the 24 hour economy, people who work on night shift, those who leave work late? Or is he referring to long distance travel?

Reminds me of the hullabaloo that greeted Hino's decision to assemble buses for the local market in South Africa. Says a lot about our standards if you ask me.

@Rankaz13,

True that.Looking at the pictures above,the top canopy came off thereby exposing the pax.Time to look at safety standards (I doubt there are any) of locally built bodies and seat securing systems (if you can call tack-welding a contraption on the floor of passenger cars a system)

In almost all of these accidents, passengers are often flung out with their seats and more often than not, those involving buses always have their top/canopy literally torn off. I think it's about time we develop and enforce standards with regard to this, especially the idea of roll cages.

Solutions to this problem of road carnage must be found first in the short term then middle and long term. Wazua is a great forum and i believe we can get some great ideas if we put our collective heads together. Maybe banning night travel for long distance psvs can work for the next 2 months as they do a thorough audit on their safety. In the mid term, roads funds should be expended on making roads countrywide safer. Eg. Proper road marking, proper barriers on elevated roads, speed bumps. Long term: weed out corruption among traffic police

Strange, how we address issues, yet more accidents take place during the day than at night.
Problem is not light/darkness, but greedy bus owners,unqualified drivers and poorly maintained vehicles.
Can our roads accomodate such heavy traffic? cz that decision is retrogressive and inviting more accidents.I look at it as shifting the same problems from darkness to light.

very very sad.Rip and God comfort the mourners.
