Just flipping through the channels and this item on Citizen Nipashe caught my attention. Over in Bungoma county, a 14year old girl just gave birth to triplets, mother and babies (all boys, two weighing 1.5kgs each and one weighing 1.8kgs) doing well. Talk of bombing kandahar smile smile

However, here's what worries me: the father of these babies is a 13year old boy, himself just as much a kid as she is. And I can't help but wonder, whatever happened to instructing our young ones on sex education? Whose role should this be - is it the parents, the church, the teachers, peers? As it is, we seem to be tossing the issue around and burying our heads in the sand while our young generation wanders around.Sad

Endeleza mjadala....

Mimi kwanza ni kumpongeza mama na kumshukuru Mungu kwa watoto watatu wenye afya. When kids have been born and they are healthy, in my mind the circumstances of how they were born, whether they should have been born, did the parents make a mistake, should they have done anything different is all water under the bridge. They are here now and that is what everyone concerned with them should be dealing with. I think the parents of the girl should take responsibility. Get the girl out of school for two years give her all the support she needs and then provide whatever help she needs to enable her get back to school after 2 years. The boy should stay in school and every day come home to help in whatever way he can. Otherwise life should go on.

Can you imagine what a cool family this could be. Mother and father in their early 30s with three 20 year old children.

Children raising children is never cool. Have you ever wondered why some African Americans act the way they do? This is part of it. Fine, the babies are here and there is nothing that can be done about it but (and I didn't watch the story so I could be wrong) if the family doesn't have money to feed the extra mouths or the parents are not sensitized on the need to have the girl return to school, she never will. The boy might ponea and continue with his education, likely forget about this poor girl and marry another.

This should be one of those "teachable moments" for those with teenagers. Not so much to scare them from "doing the do" coz we all know they will, but to educate them on some of the repercussions.

Indeed, I am glad too that mother and babies are all healthy. Now that they're here, we have to turn our attention to bringing them up.

The bigger issue here though is education on landing matters. Whenever the issue has been broached in public, our religious leaders are always up in arms opposing gov't plans to introduce sex education as part of the curriculum. But then after all the shouting, what happens?

Unfortunately this happens so often in rural areas, this was reported coz of the triplets which is rare.Teaching them not to do and telling them the consequences will not suffice for kids whose hormones are on overdrive.

As parents we must ensure the opportunities to do, do not arise.Keeping the gals on a tight leash. Keeping them busy both in school and outside. The church should also come in with education and activities for that age group.

As for the kids, both families should take up responsibility of bringing them up.The gal should go back to school in 2014 .
