I want to upgrade from my old CRT TV to a current 40 or 42 inch LED flatscreen. Which one is better - a Samsung smart TV or a Sony bravia internet TV?

Grow organically, don't shock your system too much, your heart might not take it. Move from 20' CRT to 24' CRT to 20' Plasma to 26' Plasma to 32' Plasma to 20' LCD to 26' LCD to 32' LCD to 40' LCD to 42' LCD to 20' LED to 26' LED to 32' LED to 40'LED then settle at 42'LED........BTW when you get to the destination, move from the bedsitter, you need at least 10 metres between you and he set

I have had my current telly for about 10yrs and its still going strong but I now want a nice modern TV that I can use for the next 5-7yrs before advances in technology make it obsolete. Regarding advice on viewing distances, I have seen a nice link HERE.

I have also been thinking along the same line and I have done quite some comparisons in supermarkets. I would rate samsung and sony at par. Go for either 42/ 43 inch or bigger(40 inch is a bit small). “small step for man”

In terms of aesthetics and codecs, Samsung wins hands down. Ukipata nafasi, you can check some comparisons as well as calibrations on lcdtvbuyingguide.com Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

I would also vote for Samsung LED. It needs not be smart but at least let it be Full HD. If you are adventurous... try 3D. "..I am because we are. "― Ubuntu, Umtu,

Pay close attention to the refresh rate. The greater it is (above 120Hz), the better. As far as smart TVs are concerned, Samsung recommends internet speeds of >10Mbps in order to enjoy that functionality. Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

Samsung comes out on top when it comes to Smart TVs. The UI is slick, the apps are there and the displays themselves look great. Sony has gone for the simple approach, which some may like and their design definitely beats the competition. Kama kuoga ni usafi taulo lachafukani?

@Jaggernaut ... There is plenty of HD content on DSTV. So don't feel your telly investment may be a waste "..I am because we are. "― Ubuntu, Umtu,

Settled for the 40 inch Samsung Smart LED at 74k. LINK. The next size was the 46inch that was going for 109k, but i didn't want to spend anything more than 75k. Very impressed by the features/specifications.
