@Subaru, See thread on "Cabbages" by @Jagger, Maybe you can combine the business ideas. "Things that matter most must never be at the mercy of things that matter least." Goethe

Hmmm...I'm watching this as I have some lingering interest in the same. Been looking at the smaller units, Mitsubishi Guts & Isuzu Elf and wondering which is better? Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

"first establish the need to transport something beforehand" e.g.transport your own goods ( the best) or you have a guarantee contract
don't depend on any getting business from random people, you will fail, because, Clients require value for money, they want to put the most weight on your canter, someone will want you to put 8tonne on a canter that was labelled 2000kg when it was in japan... you obviously know what happens next, huge maintenance costs !!
also, most companies which outsource transport business pay too little. e.g. they pay 100k for a canter. (when you remove tax, and maintenance) , you'll probably be left with 50k or less . which is not good ROI

My advice is transport your own goods for resale elsewhere that's when your vehicle won't be at the whims of brokers

subaru wrote:@ haron what about buying food from central or rift and transporting to other parts of the country where there is demand what r the pros and cons It can be quite profitable, but you have could also make serious losses. The bigger challenge is to learn the farm and market dynamics, what can give you money and what cannot, Having the vehicle is an added advantage to you, but is a smaller part of the equation

I know of people who make good money just in this transport business,
with a 33 canter,or bigger u have the advantage of buying farm produce from central, transporting to coast..and reaping well and proper.
The first thing is to get the lorry, once you have the lorry u start looking for business confidently..
With good proper contacts...you can make it.
another thing, dont buy a used lorry ,if you can buy a brand isuzu or whatever and Lo! forget maintenance costs that eat your profit.
