Asante for the info. Well,if KQ meets all the training costs, then KQ employees don't have a leg to stand on. IMHO,KQ should fire the employees & start afresh. In the meantime, they can use their partner airlines as well as wet leases to fly for the next 3 months. The unions killed GM & Chrysler... while Toyota does not allow unions in the USA...

@mkimwa - Unions do NOT care about Pay for Performance. Unions want to protect the worst performers as well. Why? Self-preservation.

Toyota USA is anti-unions but has innovated way beyond union-heavy GM. unions go for the Lowest Common Denominator... not to protect the company but themselves... in Biology... known as parasites...

_____* does atwoli & cronies own any revenue generating businesses? If yes,are the employees unionised?

@VVS: If only it was as easy as that, I would have moved jobs like 20 times now. Just getting into the Emirates programme is a nightmare.

@bushy: I can confirm that those are the actual figures as of now with a slight increase in the allowances from 70$ to 90$ and house allowance of 14k.

Come to think of it these guys get good money. See this: 25k retainer. Assuming a guy does the maximum overnight allowed (i.e. 12 nights), that is another 84k. Add house allowance of 14k and tips (if you are nice) of about $200 over the whole month, that adds up to a total of nearly 140k! That's not bad!

Methinks, the reason why they are complaining so loudly is their lifestyles. Go to their parking lots and you will see what I mean. Ask them where they live and you'll be surprised!

@GG: Yes. The raises are backdated but it is 10% from 1 July 2008 and the next 10% from 1 July 2009. This includes also house allowance!

@sasha I agree with you totally. Their lifestyle is to blame for the loud noises though I cant put all the blame on them. They travel the world and see how the developed world lives and its only natural for them to want to replicate it at home, with meagre resources though

I have no problem with people wanting a raise...what I know though is that someone will take a fall for it.....

What I find interesting is that these guys actually believe they will not be victimised after this charade! Ati just because Atwoli made some noise and sang some war dance and circumcision songs, they now believe that KQ management is shaking in their boots and they are secure in their jobs! Watashagaa! Smallest indiscretion and they'll be out!

I think the increament was a raw deal . Compare 10% to the rate of inflation (over the same period),i know it will hit atleast 25%,in addition, the tax man takes 30% of their raise so they sure got an increament of 7%.

Naikuni will sure have more reasons on KQ's non performance.

Small but ominous article in the Nation today. KQ are tendering for a job evaluation consultant. As I suspected,I think the evaluation exercise will upgrade the union jobs to management then the guys will be sorted out one by one.

ANOTHER ONE, 8TH OCTOBER.

This company needs to close down for a while and sort out its issues.

Suspend and re-employ all staff on contract basis.

The government MUST now strongly come in and sort out this RUBBISH.

UNNACCEPTABLE!!

KQ needs to fire any staff who goes on strike... And replace them...
KQ can enter into wet-leases or scale down operations...

Expensive in the short-term but much better in the longer-term...

Impossible to fire these unproffessional BASTARDS!

When you touch pilots, cabin crew or/and engineers the goons go on strike.

Thus pre-empt this and disband all these unions.

AWUU,KAPLA etc.

The company belongs to SHAREHOLDERS NOT EMPLOYEES!!

A few weeks without pay will sort them out... KQ should hire the Air Zimbabwe pilots who work but never know when they will be paid!

By the way, I have been building up my stake on this share since it went ex-div. Now bought about 10K @ 45. I hope it does not rise so fast as I am still marshalling resources to increase the quantity. (OK - I know, hope is not an investment strategy - but what the heck).
