it is quite likely (sorry fellow religious folk).... I won't speak for others however I can say its quite likely. this is not to say that all religious people are daft. Writings of people like Tycho here show great intelligence and depth. I don't consider myself daft but will not go overboard to label myself 'intelligent' - that is for others to do.
Here is my conclusion - the research does not say:
1) that all atheists are intelligent people (so all atheists here should not celebrate that they are brighter than us religious folk)
2) that all religious folk are daft people (so all theists here should not commiserate since that science has shown them to be daft)

personally - i consider myself a religious man of science... a paradox - no. in my mind each has its place and its not an 'mutually exclusive' relationship as many preach it today.

there will always be a cacophony of arguements advancing the atheist or religious ideology with each set highly intent on outproving the other resulting in an endless back and forth that heads nowhere, for us to head somewhere it is paramount to recognise that these two ideologies form part of the all round human expirience that is life hence humanity should embrace the faith that comes with religion and the logic that drives the atheist mind and above all respect is important, i may not adhere to religious tenets but i will bow my head and pray with my religious friends appriciating the role of religion in their lives.
on the thread topic i think cognitive bias might have influenced the results, i mean a religious person might be deemed less intelligent becsuse he will readily despense with logic on matters religion and an atheist might be deemed intelligent because of embracing logic

AKA Love? And with love comes respect and understanding.

Thing to note is, the Bible calls believers to be 'Fishers of Men'. Out of duty (and love) they won't let you be. I suspect in Islam its the same. The back and forth that you point out is inevitable. You'd be well advised to embrace it. Or even better, come over and be a Christiansmile Your well articulated engrich would be more than welcome.

A University of Rochester study using 63 scientific studies stretching back over decades has concluded that religious people are less intelligent than non-believers.

It's scientific. Your thoughts?

they even irritate lecturers because it ties to how they make out a simple argument. I think its believing that if you are religious God will give you(or gift you) with what you need, forgetting that he gives you intelligence to maneuver this world he created for us so you can get what you need.

Marxist propaganda rearing it's head again? I am a spiritual person, you can call me "semi-saved" because i agree with saved people, I believe in God, but somewhere along the way of discussion, i take a different direction. What i know is atheist make terrible leaders and perhaps entrepreneurs, Mao Zedong, Paul pot, Stalin, Lenin, Kwame Kurmah, Obote, Tinga, Hitler, they always miscalculate, murder and plunder, if they get a chance at leadership, they are responsible for most violent deaths this century, as they claim to be "very intelligent" ever since Karl Marx turned Adams Smith wealth of nations upside down, they should never be let into leadership, they can come up with some "mechanical theory" where we are all sprayed with doom and a few of them are left ruling. Even here in Kenya, they make better panel beaters and professionals, workers etc. Whilst the religious make great leaders and enterprise/wealth creators whether it's the Catholic church, The British monarchy who have led Britain for many years and are the head of the Church of England, "Anglican Church", The Republicans in the US, the US has never had a non-christian president, The Chiefs in Bophuthswana SA, Uhuruto, Just name me one sensible atheist leader so i can understand this intelligence? Is leadership a kind of intelligence? Communist, here they go killing God again!
