Buoyed by the sale of CFC Stanbic shares, turnover rose to Kes.1.25bn on a volume of 25M shares, up from Kes.381M on 9.2M shares posted yesterday.

The NSE 20 Share Index was up 0.37% to stand at 4801.03 points. All Share Index (NASI) was up 0.20 points to stand at 123.55.

H1 earnings lacking power to crack 4800 with conviction... NSE flirted with 5000 this way and was rejected 500pts down.

This is why I'm neutral against 4400. Below 4300, winter shows up...

T-bills on the rise.

NAIROBI, Aug 7 (Reuters) - The weighted average yield on Kenya's 182- and 364-day Treasury bills rose for the seventh straight week at auction, the central bank said on Wednesday.

The yield on the six-months paper jumped to 9.859 percent in low demand from 6.872 percent last week, while that on the 364-day climbed to 11.254 percent from 10.883 percent.

Pension funds’ half-year returns beat inflation rate

Returns from retirement funds outpaced the rate of inflation in the first half of the year with the best performer chalking up 43 per cent return after adjusting for inflation, a survey by an actuarial firm shows.

Equities had a 50.6 per cent return, fixed income (17.1 per cent) while offshore posted a 8.9 per cent return.

Indeed. In Q2 2013, foreign corporates increased their holding of NSE to 41.54% from 40.73% in Q1 2013. (source: Table 20 in Capital Markets Bulletin – Q2/2013 > link .)

FTSE NSE 25 daily chart also on breakout mode. Next tough resistance zone lies betweem 170 and 175. Will be interesting to see if these levels will give way when heavy trading desks return to full operation in Sept after the summer break.

The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) was held today, at The Sarova Stanley Hotel. The two Exchanges have entered into a collaboration that will benefit the financial services industry in Kenya and the People’s Republic of China.

The MoU outlines the Exchanges’ areas for future collaboration that includes training of human capital, technology development, product development, mutual sharing of information and undertaking joint research projects.
