Conversion of Christianity to Islam

I am beginning to have serious doubts about converting. As much as i read widely and really decided to convert,i hadn't seriously thought about my family .
To say they lost it is an understatement. It was a get-together,so most of my close relatives were around. I knew they wouldn't be happy,but i did not expect what i received and was told on Saturday. Especially my father;(i lost my mum and grandma on the 7th Aug bomb blast;my father has brought me up on his own ever since).
If i convert,i risk losing support from my family,they were dead serious about that.They are still very bitter about 7th Aug. I think i can handle life without my relatives,but not my father. They are not against Muslims,per se,they just don't see why i want to be in a religion which kills in the name of God.
They raised serious concerns like,how i will relate to them once i convert; (We're a very closely-knit,religious family,we meet just to pray),they feel i will lose my identity with an Islam name(after 22 yrs with a xtian name to an islam one),they fear they won't be able to identify with me,plus a lot of other whole issues.
I'm meeting the sheikh tomorrow,i'll see how it goes. Thanx 4 all ur comments,it has made me broaden my horizon over the issue.

'My people will perish because of lack of knowledge'.
This is exactly what we are doing. We are seeking and sharing knowledge.
Where we have been misled,we need to re-look,re-think and ask ourselves if we are doing something right.
For your information,Christianity and Muslim recognize Jesus,and respect him so much. No mistake about this.
Where is the difference? Faith in prophets.
These were prophets of God: Adam,Noah,Abraham,Moses,Solomon,John,Jesus and Mohammed.
When you say we'll be bowing to King of Kings singing hossana,he's the Lord Almighty,who are you refering to here?
Are you refering to God the Creater,Jesus the messaiah,or the Holy spirit (good angel)?

@Alpha, You ask wher the difference is.....It is very clear.Both the bible and Quran recognise Jesus of Nazareth but the bible does not recognise Mohammed........Reason?....the fellow was born in 675 AD........Long long after the bible had been written.There is no way he is going to be fixed somewhere...... @Reiner, Am utterly surprised..........you must have been doing some research.I mean......They killed your mother??(Sorry for that)........and you want to join the same religion??......Probably with intentions of killing some more hapless souls in future..????......You are sick...!! Reiner-plse running us thru that again? Your mother got killed by these murdering muslims and last weekend you went and told your father you want to become a muslim. Correct? Reiner,as you have changed your mind,I would suggest,you run,as fast as you can away from this religion. If you go back to this Sheikh,he will convince and sweet talk you into it. As I have stated earlier,buyer beware,It has an attractive cover,but once you get in,it is full of rules and regulations,rites and rituals,and blind obedience. The rules and regulations are more important to them,then having a personal relationship with God. Buyer,be very,very careful. I have been there,and seen it all. RUN RUN RUN

Have read the posts on this forum with great interest and have noted a simple confusion in people's mind.
The confusion is that they judge muslims to be a reflection of Islam. Nothing could be further from the truth.If you really want to know what Islam means than read the Quran and the Prophet's traditions. A few practices which have been highlighted in this forum and which are against Islam-
Women's rights- women in Islam were given a right to inheritance 1490 years ago.Indeed a woman is described as the Queen of the house by the Prophet.
Slaves-The Prophet disliked the practice and indeed freed slaves with his own money.The slave he freed,was so much attracted by his behaviour and truthness,that even after being freed he decided to stay with the Prophet and indeed was his adopted son.
FGM-This is a practice forbidden in Islam.
Equality of races-In the Prophet's words-a non arab is no better than an arab and an arab is no better than a non arab. Whosoever is pious is greater.
Marriage-It is permissible to marry 4 wives-but the condition is that you MUST treat them equally.
Cleanliness- Muslims are suppossed to take ablution 5 times a day-is there any better cleanser than water?

@think: Thank you for clarification. This is what I meant when I said someone more informed can answer some of the questions raised here. If you lack knowledge in one thing,you have in another. In a truely Islamic society women have the following rights in Islam: 1. The right and duty to obtain education. 2. The right to have their own independent property. 3. The right to work to earn money if they need it or want it. 4. Equality of reward for equal deeds. 5. The right to express their opinion and be heard. 6. The right to provisions from the husband for all her needs and more. 7. The right to negotiate marriage terms of her choice. 8. The right to obtain divorce from her husband,even on the grounds that she simply can't stand him. (pls note that God deeply frowns upon divorce as a solution unless there is hardly any other alternative but it does not mean that men have more right to divorce their wives than women do.) 9. The right to keep all her own money (she is not responsible to maintain any relations). 10. You have asked a good question but you can only understand it when you understand the central dogma of christian theology.Its not easy and many scholars have debated about this in vain.
I know you worship one God thats fine
You refer to Jesus as a prophet,great and you call Him Esar in quran
But when it comes to the Holy spirit,understanding the three in one,thats where you get lost.This is not for muslims alone but there are some other groups who do not accept the existance of Father,Son and Holy Spirit.My friend you cant seperate these three.And so any one who do not believe in the Holy Trinity is simply a cult. So it doesnt matter how much you believe in God and Jesus Christ,so long as you disregard the holy spirit(the Shepard) am not talking of the good Angel,lets not mix issues here,then you are a cult.Before Jesus ascended to heaven,he promised that he will send us a helper to guide & direct us so that we may not fall.Simple explanation from wiki is..........

Am still praying that the will of God be done in your life.His will is that you may not perish but have an everlasting life.That is why He came to seek that which was lost,that is me and you so that we my find life in Him through Christ Jesus.
When the then Angel of God( Lucipher) had rebelled aginst God,he was thrown down on earth and he is now the King of the world.He is ruling Gods people mercilessly with one vision.to steal,kill and destroy.He will show you no mercy but he is raming like a roaring lion seeking who to devour.I want you to watch out very keenly,the enemy will do what it takes,he comes with all kind of strategies to ensur that he has stolen you.Afer that,the only thing he will do is just to kill and destroy you.
My testimony when my mummy was preaching to me the gospel of salvation at a tender age was this.God has given us the power to make a choice,to choose good or bad! to choose life or death! to choose to follow God or the devil!
I i was listening to the swwet summon and digesting it very keenly,i asked my mother a question.' Now mum,now that the devil is bad and would want to kill me when i choose to follow God,what if i choose to follow him and become his best budy so that he may not destroy me?
My mother then explained to me the Vision,Mission and objective of the devil.And by the power of the holy Ghost,i was able to understand that there is nothing good that can come from the devil.
So when God saw that His children (me & u) are in trouble and He can no longer fellowship with us as He had intended,He asked in heaven,' who can go and save the world? ' and there was no one,none on earth nor in heaven who could break the seal.But God had the intention of restoring us,He had to sacrifice His only begotten Son (Jesus) to come and save us.Thank God for His Son,the Lamp,the Holy one of Israel,atleast now we have got an assurance but only if you believe.
