Interesting that DN story. NSE had more listed companies back in the 60s than today despite the anti capitalist laws! It still has a long way to become a huge inflated bubble...

As for zim, I like the thunderous fear in the market. Sharp selloffs always create very fat tails. Zim is still a dollarized econ, banks must operate. If only there was a zim ETF... This is fear that needs to be bought pronto mugabe or not...

@deal - Maybe the Intrade guys should introduce your suggestion. Other trade bets on him getting ousted have been a loss making trade idea... This may go the Chavez way unlike Mubarak or Berlusconi.

As long as they can still export USD inflation the debt can bulge further! When that USD hegemony crashes then does the debt default come home to roost.

HSBC has requested embassies and consulates around the world to close their accounts and transfer their funds to other banks within 60 days.
The US State Department said 40 countries have been affected, 16 in Africa.

The London-based bank said in a statement the missions which they consider ‘commercial customers’ are a risk because they fear the money can end up in a money laundering or drug cartel.

In 2012, HSBC was issued over $2 billion in fines by the US State Department for holding assets connected to Iran, Libya, and Mexico’s drug rings.

¶ A housing recovery that began last year has made both profitable again. Combined, they have paid back roughly $136 billion of their government loans. Those payments are helping to make this year’s federal budget deficit the smallest since President Obama took office.
