I think that these banks need to know one thing, a credit card is not just any other card to fill in an empty space in the wallet. Besides there are some outlets just accept Cards and not cash.
So, for a bank to issue you with a credit card and expect you to notify them when you travel out of the country is rather ridiculous....what if you have to change your route because of the Iceland volcanic ash. It is an embarrassment when you learn that your card has been blocked at the till. If these banks are concerned about security then the first thing they should do is forget about this outdated method of swiping and signing for a transaction and instead the use of a keying in the pin. I say this because once a fraudulent person uses your card once its swiped the transaction is complete unlike when you have to key in a PIN.
For online transactions it is your responsibility to check whether the site is secure. That said, sometimes bad luck may come knocking your way and thugs take you to the ATM to withdraw money for them in which case you have no choice but comply BUT banks have to give their clients the space to enjoy the flexibility that they pay for to use their cards.
I have an interest in this topic because credit card is something i cannot do without. It has started with NIC bank... which other banks have adopted the same?
