Take it easy waswa...
Anyway,it is true that old cars have issues, some a lot of issues and others relatively less. Depends on what issues you want live with.
Brand new cars from DT Dobie,Toyota EA,Marshals et al,only need Fuel,Oil Change and minor service; only until sometime. That 'Sometime',is where most of us can afford to buy 'USED CARS'.
1st Class Used Cars,we get them Japan,Singapo and some from Korea and Dubai. They will have what we call, low milleage; ranging from 20,000km to 150,000km. Depending on what range of milleage the car has hit and also the make of the car, there will be a number of things that require attention. The mild ones are, shocks, springs, bushes, drive shaft belts etc. All these things cost money and a car will not give you satisfaction unless they are fixed. The heavy ones may require change of clutch unit, water pump, steering rack,CV joints, bearings, wheel hubs, head guskette etc inclduing the ones I had mentioned earlier. The cost is even higher and failure to fix these items, the car degenerates very fast.
2nd Class Used Cars; these now are the ones that have been used here in kenya for quite a while, either bought new from the showroom or,were imported from Japan and have been used quite some and or have changed hands to like three to four people. They are characterized by high milleage (Over 200,000KM) and major breakdowns that cost a lot of money to keep the car running. They will need such things as,engine overhaul, suspention overhaul; please note the word OVERHAUL,gearbox overhaul, braking system Overhaul,Cooling system overhaul,as in at the end of the day,you might be building another car.
3rd Class Used cars; are the kind that have very little mobility capability and are good for nothing. Their worth is for scrap metal and substitute spareparts.
With Ksh 120,000 you are probably looking for 2nd class used car. If you are lucky, you may find a good one. Chances are,you will get one whose vocabulary will be OVERHAUL. Now,that's a lot more money to spend.
I'd rather you take a bit more time, save instead of spending on overhauls,to ongeza the chums to like 250K to 300K and you will get yourself a good 1st class used car.
each day is a gift from God; I dont know if I will be here tomorrow; should I be,I'll make the most of it for God's glory; should I be not, pick up and keep the legacy

If you have money that you expect to start using in five years,it now belongs in stocks. When I have money, I get rid of it quickly, lest it find a way into my heart.

When you run so fast to get somewhere, you miss the fun of getting there... Life is not a race,so take it slowly.... When you hear what I say, you will not understand. When you see what I do, you will not comprehend

Whatever you do please take your mechanic along coz for that cash you might end up getting a junk and spend much much more.
