@ thuks- i wonder why they are allowed to go on air lying ati they can cure diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, etc.You can imagine how many people have been duped. and by the way they are not cheap!

I think its just the regulators sleeping on the job or they may have been compromised. There are rules governing what and how one can advertise, but observed more in breach than observance

compromised i think- you should see and hear them. And to make matters worse they are normally aired on KBC-( Gava channel) nktest.

I wish the regulators would just do their job and stop sleeping. it would save people alot of anguish.

most herbal products are registered as nutritional supplements, since they do not meet the stringent requirements to be registered as drugs. while the law prohibits a doctor from advertising himself, it allows the sellers of these nutritional products, read herbal medicine practitioners, to advertise. The loop hole can be sealed once specific legislation is enacted. we need a herbal medicine regulatory frame work. NOW HOW CAN ONE REGULATE SOMETHING WHERE THERE IS NO LEGAL REGULATORY FRAME WORK?

Herbalits are licensed under the Ministry of Culture, Heritage.. (Ile ya Ntimama) so the Ministry of Health (both of them) are unable to regulate them and cannot kick them out of business. it is sad.

But herbal medication as it is advised is very very dangerous. Especially if you have a chronic disease. Stick to the same doctor.. You are better of that way.

I meant stick to the same Doctor/medicine. The conventional kind, not the herbalists.

My interest in alternative medicine has increased tremendously over the last few years. This is an outcome of my desire to heal myself of depression, and generally, my desire to make sense of the deaths of loved ones who coincidentally have succumbed to chronic illnesses.

As a matter of fact I have already started practice as a 'traditional doctor'. Like yesterday, my friend's daughter, who has sickle cell anaemia had failed to go to school and was in pain. I taught the girl breathing techniques, and gave her massage therapy. Within minutes she was jolly and strong.

Another 'client' wanted to reduce weight and wanted my opinion on 'magilim'. I asked her to follow a simple exercise regime that takes as little as fifteen minutes, and made some dietary changes like having fruits in the morning and not mixing starch with protein in the same meal, and eating plenty of vegetables. The last time I checked she said she felt stronger and sexier and had indeed lost some two kilos.

Administering 'Champissage' relieves headaches, and I have often found 'mild' exercise a good 'treatment' for common cold.

I have found techniques like Acupressure, hypnosis, and psychiatric and spiritual sharing powerful remedies for many medical conditions. The premise here is that disease strikes when your mind and spirit are weak, and strengthening the spirit necessarily strengthens the body.

Conventional medicine has its worldview, which I'd say is more 'mechanistic' than 'spiritualist', or 'vitalistic', and even in itself cannot be regarded as 'safe' or 'certain'. Drugs end up creating complications, misdiagnosis is not unusual, and doctors are more often than not, cold and distant.

Traditional medicine offers more doctors per population, but it suffers from several drawbacks. Firstly, it is full of superstition and aversion for the scientific method. When I announced to my friends that I was venturing into traditional medicine their first thought was 'witchcraft'. Well, witchcraft is related to spirituality, but involves inexplicable mystery. But that can't be true. Everything is explicable.

Alternative medicine and conventional medicine can go hand in hand, but one should only be aware of the limits of each.

Conventional medicine is business and thats why when its said that a traditional practice can care ABC, the pharmaceuticals come out to condemn it stating that there's no research done to prove it. All the best @tycho..please share the knowledge when the opportunity presents itself

@Murchr.. We share a similar opinion.

@Tycho.. Please share the knowledge.. hopefully in detail

If I may be allowed to suggest on your depression.. try looking into your gut. Read 'GAPS' Gut and Psychology Syndrome.. it explains in detail how, the flora from your mouth, stomach intestines to your rectum can affect the rest of your body.

Also have a look at EFT. Emotional Freedom technique. Have a look at 'The tapping Solution' The co-relation between pent-up emotion, from childhood till present and state of our health is clearly illustrated.(Its originally Chinese and closely related to acupuncture)

The importance of proper breathing should be taught from kindergarten! Its said the faster you breathe the faster you age. Have a look at 'Mantak Chia's' book. Breathing combined with sexual energy, could revolutionize your health. Imagine male multiple-orgasms without the release of semen, the rigidity of the pine.. but instead rejuvenating and healing the body. That instead of sleeping(the French's 'Little death') you feel even more energetic?
