Headline story in The Star. TSC to stop deducting KNUT money from Teacher's salaries. Teachers to pay KNUT directly.

if that happens knut will find it very hard to collect the money on their own, most teachers won't pay.

I wonder what lady Wisdom would say about the government's treatment of KNUT after the end of the strike? Officials fined and in court, efforts to cripple them from lack of funds, confidences breached on social media. Hmmmn....

Top Knut officials detained for contempt

Government to cut off KNUT money

Out in the open wisdom calls aloud,
she raises her voice in the public square;
on top of the wall[d] she cries out,
at the city gate she makes her speech:
“How long will you who are simple love your simple ways?"

I thought this was already on-going even before calling off the strike... the date for this hearing had already been set long before the strike was called off if i am not wrong? And that is why, word in the street was, part of the negotiation was for TSC to drop the charges.....

I hear you @Wendz, you speak of the court case - okay put that aside - though government/TSC did not make any efforts to withdraw.

The other actions show a trend where government is wielding power. Which is fine until the day when they will be on the weaker footing again...

On a related note, MPs give themselves powers to set salary in new Bill

The other part i completely agree with you. it was totally in bad faith. they know how difficult it is to remove the money and pay what you aren't really forced to pay. Which means more teachers will default given the inconvenience of going to pay. But this shouldn't discourage KNUT.... they just need to open an MPESA pay bill number to help teachers pay conveniently. It is for the teachers good that they keep their union biting.

Well, i read that article and it is sad.... how greedy the MPs have gotten.

Look for a documentary called Heist: Who Stole the American Dream and see how labor unions have been consistently and deliberately weakened in the U.S and the welfare of workers has nosedived as a result of that, right from the time when Reagan sacked the air traffic controllers. In the 70s, nearly 2 in 3 of employees were union members but today, the figure is less than one in fourteen.

Teachers are very powerful in the grassroots and they are the electorate, never forget that.

@Innovateguy, watoto wako bado wako magotini?? If not they must be in a private school somewhere, teachers play a very important role in society, and its for selfish reasons that the government is doing this and mnyonge hana haki, the teachers will invent ways of making money outside the working hours, lack of morale and motivation etc, and we wonder why the illiteracy rates in Kenya are what they are?
Some countries hire the creme as teachers and they are paid very well. I think huku mungu ndio husaidia, it takes a lot of passion for someone who did not do very well in their own exams to produce better grades for the children they teach, they deserve better.
that said the education system in Kenya is totally warped...
