This one introduced me to such questions.

Three men in a cafe order a meal the total cost of which is $15. They each contribute $5. The waiter takes the money to the chef who recognizes the three as friends and asks the waiter to return $5 to the men.

The waiter is not only poor at mathematics but dishonest and instead of going to the trouble of splitting the $5 between the three he simply gives them $1 each and pockets the remaining $2 for himself.

Now, each of the men effectively paid $4, the total paid is therefore $12. Add the $2 in the waiters pocket and this comes to $14.....where has the other $1 gone from the original $15?

5*3=15
15-5=10
10+3=13
Waiter has pocketed $2.
No difference

That's right. My problem was accounting for the $1 when you start with $4.

Its a trick question.The $1 doesn't exist.

4*3 = 12 where $10 goes to the chef and $2 to the waiter. No need to add two again.
3*1 = 3 + 12 = 15

If a physically disabled(legs) lands on a blind man's wife airport and the only person who saw it is deaf/dumb(whatever!!!). How can the dumb guy report it to the blind?

They each paid $3.33 i.e (15-5)/3 for the meal, $0.67 i.e 2/3 to the waiter(though not voluntarily) and pocketed $1 each as discount. In summary (3.33+0.67+1)3=15

Mr. Black, Mr. Gray, and Mr. White are fighting in a truel. They each get a gun and take turns shooting at each other until only one person is left. Mr. Black, who hits his shot 1/3 of the time, gets to shoot first. Mr. Gray, who hits his shot 2/3 of the time, gets to shoot next, assuming he is still alive. Mr. White, who hits his shot all the itime, shoots next, assuming he is also alive. The cycle repeats. If you are Mr. Black, where should you shoot first for the highest chance of survival?

Best strategy is to eliminate White first, who has a 100% success rate. Black might then get a second chance at shoot-out with Gray.

Black has a accuracy of 1/3. That works out to 2/3 chance of hitting a target he doesn't intend.

Black should therefore shoot at Gray knowing he has a 2/3 chance of hitting White.
Life is short. Live passionately.

I was thinking I would shoot at Mr.White.That way if Mr.Grey misses Mr.White and is taken out,I will have increased my chances of taking out Mr.White, the true threat. But if I hit Mr.White, there is still the possibility of Mr.Grey missing me.

...I hope now you agree that it is better for Mr. Black not to take out any of them in the 1st round!!!!

Assuming that each player has one bullet, then Mr.Black with only 1/3 success rate should go for Mr. White and miss, leaving Gray to take out white cz black ceases to be a threat.
So why should Gray even bother to kill Black yet hana bullet?
If it's a must that one stands then Gray wins.
