KQ might not collapse as an airline but as @guru points out, the 'other' shareholders can get wiped out. And those close to ruto are salivating. Appointments pap!

i read this article in the morning and i couldn't believe the BS i was reading. since when has gov done a good job of running anything? even if they hype this share and company, you don't need to be a genius to know what'll happen somewhere down the line. capital destruction of shareholders.
id be worry of anything gava wants to get their hands on, they'll eventually leave u high and dry, no care for shareholders WHATSOEVER.

"Warren Buffet calls airline stocks a death trap for investors"

"...the airline business has been extraordinary. It has eaten up capital over the past century like almost no other business because people seem to keep coming back to it and putting fresh money in. You’ve got huge fixed costs, you’ve got strong labor unions and you’ve got commodity pricing. That is not a great recipe for success. I have an 800 (free call) number now that I call if I get the urge to buy an airline stock. I call at two in the morning and I say: ‘My name is Warren and I’m an aeroholic.’ And then they talk me down.”

GoK is joking around. Kamau thinks this is thika road ama? First of all GoK has no experience and track record of operating well in a competitive environment. Look at NOCK, it's a joke of a fuel company and even then, they have to create 30% guaranteed OTS supply for them to survive. Obviously there are no OTSs or tariffs to adjust international sky and the result is that in 2-3 yrs the planes will be reposssed by the financier and very few people will want to fly in the airline. Can you imagine KQ under GoK competing withe Emirates or Etihad? This yarn is being span by Tito as a survival tactic. What KQ needs is an experienced airline man at the top immediately. Look at what Willy Walsh has done with BA which was totering on the verge of collapse 4 years ago, look at it now..it's made remarkable recovery to profitability and had they delayed the merger with Iberia they would be looking towards another stellar year. If BA can be profitable then KQ should stop cheating investors. The environment in Europe is worse than Africa.

KQ needs a proper airline head at the helm. Lets allow Tito to return to engineering which is what he is good at. The new boss needs to urgently close down routes that don't make money and are not critical which is what KK is doing with it's stations. Thereafter cut the fat. KQ has way too many employees.Very hard decisions are required at KQ starting with the Board. A lot of the board members are not clued in on the airline business that is why they listen to stories about hotels and fuel companies and rarely question Tito's vasco da gama airways strategy!

I'm with you on this one. I own a substantial amount of shares in the company and I'm not letting go that easy, so I'm still accumulating at low prices and averaging down. I'm a hoarder when it comes to stocks...when KQ hits over 25 however long it will take, It will be worth it. I'm still young and can sustain calculated risks. In the meantime I'll keep on reading wazua's "experts" keep on speculating on this stock.

Ethiopia deal with Malawian Air puts new pressure on KQ

Kenya Airways is set to face stiff competition in southern Africa following the return of Malawi’s national carrier with Ethiopian Airlines as a majority shareholder

Malawi is one of KQ’s lucrative routes in Southern Africa as it deepens its growth strategy of connecting more African cities to Asia and Europe through Nairobi. KQ has been heavily investing in Southern Africa with new routes and increased frequencies.

This shall definately be a big blow to KQs margins in the Southern sector.they have been enjoying a near monopoly on the lilongwe-blantyre-lusaka route even picking passengers from lilongwe/blantyre to lusaka....at times even the huge 777 is deployed on this route and its at full capacity....I now see how that citi bank report projected a loss making position for KQ this financial year.

VAT Bill as it is will ground us, says KQ

“We cannot afford and will not be able to continue as an airline if the VAT Bill as proposed is passed,” said KQ finance director, Mr Alex Mbugua.
