The pilot in control apparently had only 43 hrs on the triple despite a total of about 10,000 hrs on other frames including the 747. It turns out it was his first landing at SFO under VFR because the glide slope had been turned off! Very unfortunate for the passengers.

Yeah, apparently the ILS in SFO have been U/S and ATC had issued a NOTAM to that effect but crew remembered that at TOD that GLS was not being TARGET...the pilot was forced to do VFR within seconds when he had along set his mind on IFR.

Please rewrite this in simple English. We are neither all pilots nor do we all speak Pilot-English.

The crash could have been avoided were it not due to incompetence of the US airport authorities. Navigational equipment at the airport that help pilots to land were not working, for over 1 month.

Quote:
The instrument landing system vertical guidance on runway 28L had been out of service since June 1. Arrivals were standard visual approaches, helped by the clear weather at the time. Aviation safety commentator Chesley Sullenberger said a project to increase the runway safety zone required pilots to temporarily rely on sight instead of electronics with automated warnings. He said investigators would consider whether unavailability of the electronic guidance system played a role in the crash.

This is very doubtful.

Best explanation I have read so far of what could have gone wrong for the Asiana flight:

would be very unfortunate. hopefully not a case of premature disembarkation of passengers due to lack of fastened seat belts.

If he used to land the 747, the triple7 should have been a piece of cake.....smaller, more modern.

Love the way everybody has now become an aviation expert, frothing at the mouth with an alphabet soup of 3-letter abbreviations ...ati VFR, SFO, ILS Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly
Nyamazeni. Most of you guys don't know sh*t about what happened cause you have never flown an aircraft before, you are not safety/weather or any other sort of aviation expert so trying to come off as clever sounding is pointless. The US NTSB will issue a non-biased professional report in due time after investigations are concluded.
