This is the second incident with significant airframe damage on the 777, the first being in London in 2008 (British Airways) where we had a number of injuries, there has never been a fatality on this plane!!!

True that though I think the fact that it was landing after a long haul, probably had little fuel left minimizing risk of serious explosion/fire. Air travel still remains the safest mode of transportation.
