I have noticed road signs saying "Keep Left Unless Overtaking" on the Thika Superhighway. They are posted on sections that have 3 lanes on either side. Is this the proper way to driver on a one-way road? I can't imagine what is to be gained by driving this way or what is to be lost by driving along whichever lane happens to be clear - with careful cross-lane maneuvering of course. I have also heard it said that the outer lane is for slow vehicles and the inner one is for the ones driving faster. Ukweli iko wapi? Those signs had been there ever since it was still a dual carriage way

In fact on the Superhighway it's pretty easy to slip out of the main road even at near-max-limit speeds. As for the signs, I didn't realize they were always there. I didn't imply they weren't either, did I? Learn first to treat your time as you would your money, then treat your money as you do your time.

But yes, right from the dual carriage days, they'd been erected all the way from Kenol to Nbi. Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

Just imagine three trailers moving at 50km max hogging the three lanes. I care!

Yes. There are long stretches and nice curves for easy exit. Maybe its a carry over from the old road. There will always be those going faster than the others and others going slower than the others. It still makes sense to separate and align them in their respective cohorts even if they are going the same direction.

It's coz of the speeds involved. If you are on the inner lane and you are driving slowly, of course you'll make faster drivers keep maneuvering the lanes. The outer lane is for slow cars and those exiting, while the inner lane is for higher speeds. Again, the left side is your blind side, it's easier to see cars from your right side mirror. Which IS a problem. If I am cruising at 110kph, why not just stick to the innermost (right-most) lane instead of weaving in and out of the left one? That feels like the less dangerous and more efficient strategy. Learn first to treat your time as you would your money, then treat your money as you do your time.

@Ante_Christa/@thuks, so you are saying that the slow guys should stick to the left-most lane and leave the other lanes for faster traffic? No? Learn first to treat your time as you would your money, then treat your money as you do your time.

Hehehe! Of course I told the policeman what he wanted to hear. But I am questioning this wisdom. I know a lot of Wazuans do too, unless sio nyinyi mnakuwanga kwa hizi barabara. Maybe you just don't realize that you disagree. I want someone to explain to me what we gain by rigidly sticking to this "Keep Left Unless Overtaking" cardinal rule, which in my experience we don't stick to anyway. Was going to ask the same thing, this explains why so many people have no idea why they have been shown the middle finger on the road. And those when you flash your lights they decide to put on hazards, ignorance!!!
