Car Import Charges: Where does the truth lie?

Hi wisemen and ladies

I have an import at the port and what is surprising is the agent changing fee goal posts. He says there are new rates!

The car is an imprezza GG2, Non turbo 1500cc

The agent whom i have used severally before, is asking for

1. Railway Devt Fee Kes 5,000/-
2. Radiation fee Kes 1,000/=
3. Maritime Levy Kes 3,000/=
4. Port Charges Kes 23,000/=
5. Agency Fee Kes 15,000/=
6. IDF applica Kes 6,000/=

any one who can confirm the authenticity of da same? Perhaps it was time to change agents.
Last import had nothing on nos 1-3, port was 20k for a bigger car, and idf was 5k

After the nuclear mess in 2011 at Fukushima Daiichi - Japan, it became necessary to check whether the cars/Imports from that direction are contaminated.

railway levy was recently proposed in the budget dont know if they started implementing it, its pegged at 1.5% of the import's value, for my imports, the maritime levy is usually at ksh 1300, radiation fees at ksh 1000 (japan origin cars only) and IDF at ksh 5000, all the other charges are pretty much within the normal limits

i have alsoe imported a car recently and i have paid all the costs u have mentioned above. i got quotes from several agents and the only thing that was varying was the agency fee! The best i got was charging 8k for agency fee

Railway Development Levy started being levied from 1st July 2013 as 1.5% of the customs value of ALL imports. Not sure why the agent is telling you that its not applicable

Do you have your Manifest Number? You can query by yourself how much is payable by dialing *572# and select Customs.
