Interesting debate this one.
I always find it difficult to argue religion. But for those who believe a clear line can be drawn between the musically profane and profound should read the Bible's 'Song of Solomon' again.
Closer to home I was recently listening to Leonard Cohen's 'Halleluja" - I always thought it was a Gospel song:
I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this

The minor fall, the major lift
