Jesus is a hebrew name that means the Lord is salvation. The Latin pronounce it as hay-soos. It is derived from the hebrew name Yeshua, which is short of Yehoshua or Joshua. Joshua means the Lord is salvation. It's also like calling your child Hosea, which means salvation. So there's nothing wrong with calling your child Jesus.

You can, as long as you pronounce it 'He-sus' and not 'Ji-zus'

thought the right pronounciation in latin is Ye-sus, same way Juan is pronounced as Yan

I had a good friend from Angola named Jesus. At first when he told me his name I thought that he was joking, I kept on asking repeatedly, until I saw the brother was not joking, his friends were calling him Jesus, well, I might just as well get used to it.

Maybe his name played a role in me becoming a Christian, every time you call him, you'd think of Jesus.

Nothing wrong at all, spaniards, portuguese, latinos have always named their kids jesus. There is one spanish footballer at the moment if you are watching the confederation cup you might be lucky to see him, he will be joining mancity in the summer so if you dont see him in the confederation cup wait for the new premier league season. A pacy winger, he is called Jesus Navas. Benfica coach is also called Gorge De Jesus as well he is portuguese. Its us africans or kenyans to be specific that we havent done so, but yes Jesus is just a name. Like John or John the baptist or even Judas we have people called Judah or Judas lol, though we are cautuious about Escariot , there you go, call your son jesus if you wish, no problem.
