The original "blue marble" photo looked like this originally but was changed to reflect the 'north = up' lie.  ... North is not UP! checkout the link on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reversed_map
No wonder we call europe and america ... MA-JUU!! Size of Africa...  remember the maps we used when growing up? Greenland was almost the size of Africa? ...and north is not necessarily higher. Thus the reference of the northern part of former Eastern province as 'upper eastern' with the southern as lower eastern is erroneous.

to put things in perspective the total population of all those countries in the map China 1,354,040,000 India 1,210,569,573 USA 316,031,000 Japan 127,300,000 Germany 80,327,900 France 65,657,000 Spain 47,059,533 UK 63,181,775 Eastern Europe: 190,000,000 total: 3,454,166,781 Africa's population: 1.033 billion All Mushrooms are edible! Ten's of millions healthy Africans transported across the Atlantic into the 'New World' for nearly 400 years. Why population of India and China is comparatively high: .They were able to discover medicine for most of common diseases long ago, hence low mortality rates .Due to hostility of Muslims and the fact that Africa was conjoined to Asia, Europeans could not reach India / China on a massive scale till 15th Century. Their populations were thus preserved from the disruptive Europeans .Their Society was more homogeneous hence less internal conflicts = less mortality rates .There were fewer wild animals = less mortality rates .They were not transported to other continents as slaves Africa was the exact opposite till 20th century; slave trade took away a huge chunk of healthy population. Native Americans were wiped out by European diseases

When I was in std 4 , I actually believed it was the other way round! water flowed from the Mediterranean 'down' to Lake Sango! I wondered how the salt disappeared. Later I was informed that it flowed 'from the bottom of the page to the top' and it completely blew my mind! Of course later I realized the world did not have an 'top' or 'bottom' but the damage had been done. Think about it... in the great expanse of space - there is no north, no south, no east and no west! no horizontal and no vertical. no top and no bottom! no point of reference to deduce these directional things! Our kin were killed left right centre by 1. Slave trade - during - the capturing - the transportation - the seasoning - the hate crimes  some were hung as seen, some were burnt and shot. considering at one point africans were more than any other group of persons in the US (19.3% of the population in 1790). the fact that the country with the second largest of Africans IS NOT IN AFRICA should point to the magnitude of the slave trade. Remember these are people who were robbed of everything including their humanity. 2. colonialism not sure how to start. 8 million people killed in Congo in 20 years. if your were not shot, you became displaced.
