I see everyone blaming Oliech and saying others should be given a chance. I think Kenyans are deceiving themselves.

You people are deceiving yourseleves. What new talents are these you see comin ?
Kenya is stuck in a quagmire because we have no youth development structures. All the other Kenyan offensive players who have gone to Europe have failed badly : Blackberry went to Denmark and flopped, Allan Wanga could not make it in Azebaijan, Patrick Oboya flopped in Slovakia and is now in Vietnam, Kelvin Kimani who was KPL player of the year in 2012 is now stuck in germany division 4. Others like James Situma and Moses Arita could not even succeed in Albania.

Do you see a pattern here ? Due to lack of youth development and due to poor coaching at club level, Kenya players are poorly equipped to play at higher levels. tactically naive, poor positioning, poor runs, inability to play with both feet, inability to pass or cross accurately.

I am amazed that Kenyans think that talent will just emerge from the grassroots. Oliech is a once in a lifetime talent who made in Europe because he had the tools: Incredible speed and close ball control. Since he went to Europe he has worked hard on his weaknesses which enabled him to stay in France.

Wanyama and Mariga succeeded because they fit the Pape Buba Diop template.

Other Kenyans who go to Europe have talent but find fail. Things shall stay the same until Kenya starts to take youth development seriously. And the calibre of coaches at club level must improve.

Kenya does not even have proper U20 and U17 teams. None of the clubs have youth teams except perhaps Thika United.

On top of that Nyamweya is incompetent and selfish. No wonder he cancelled sakata ball because safaricom refused to give him 20% of the money.

And finally, playing fields all over the major cities are quickly dissapearing into the hands of land grabbers. Most new housing developments in kenya today have no spaces for young vijana to play and nurture their skills. This spells doom for sports. If 7-8-9 years olds cannot play and nurture their skills, they will never become good footballers.

During my heyday in lower primo we had playing fields everywhere. Today those fields have all been grabbed.

Unless these issues are remedied I see Kenya stagnating at number 123 in the FIFA rankings at least for the next 10 years and beyond.

I just read that in 37 meetings, kenya has only beaten Malawi 7 times. That my friends is embrassing. A tiny nation like Malawi dominating Kenya like this. And things will not change because as kenyans we dont identify our problems and create valid solutions.

There are no short cuts. Even Ethiopia is now better than Kenya. Not only did they qualify for ANC 2012 but they still have a shot to qualify Brazil 2014. Their womens team thrashed Kenya 5-0 a few months ago and St George of Ethiopia is eliminating Egyptian teams, something Kenyan teams cannot.

What ails Kenya Football?
1. Feet
2. Balls

If our feet and balls could come to a consensus to stick together, we would be better in football.

The only prudent thing to do is MAKE IT TRIBAL!
Kikuyus versus Luos na kadhalika, lets go back to 60s and 70s before arap Moi spoiled our game with his ideologies!

Tribal teams without youth development and proper organization is a recipe for continued failure

@alba, nice analysis. While we may not be a great footballing nation like Nigeria, we should at least be winning the regional cup CECAFA and making it to cup of nations. I am no serious foota fan but your piece is great food for thought

Did you notice that in a crucial must-win game where we are playing at home, the score was still 0-0 in the 70th min and our keeper gets booked for time wasting!!
