@berns Yes I lost money on KQ...bought at an average price of Sh42 I had to runaway at Sh25 with a 40% loss...had I waited the loss could be staggering right now i.e 73%...

Always know when to run especially when there is a significant change in a company's fundamentals and the management is still asleep...

Olympia. 14 to 5. And pathetic small & late dividends.

I haven't yet experienced a big loss on the NSE... But it has to be mumias which I bought at 6bob and sold at 4.95!

I think my losses are relatively low are due to the fact that I have no problem cutting my losses and running when company fortunes change!

Bought uchumi @13 and got trapped by that ugly bankruptcy. Sold after relisting at an avg of 11.50. I feel sorry for CMC fans for upon relisting, they too will be taken to the cleaners. Bought KQ @17 trying to catch a double bottom in 2011 then they announced that rights issue from hell. Got out at 14. To date KQ is still a falling knife. Yep, everyone gets burnt once in a while. That's the game - win some, lose some but make sure you minimize your losses. Taking losses is a hard thing for any investor. But the sooner you take the hit the better your survival chances. Same to profits, have targets and take your loot.

Bought centum at Kshs.41. Still holding. This is the stock that reminds me that it is not my broker's job to take care of my money.

I also bought into Mworia's company around 2008 or so at Sh.42 for 1000 units.
I bought in batches of 1000 units at Sh.31, Sh 21 and Sh 14 all in the name of averaging down.
I still hold all the 4K units and so am still burning.
I earned some few dividend shillings before the dividend drought set in.
I attended AGM last & elderly shareholders complained so much about this dividend policy

For me, i have never sold any stock at a loss. This is partly because am a newbie in stocks trading (Started in late 2010) and i buy/sell stocks mostly bimonthly.

But in terms of loses on paper, if i am to sell currently, it would be;
a. Total Kenya 1,200 shares @ 24
b. Mumias 60,000 shares @ 5.25
c. Britam 12,500 shares @ 9 ipo

KCB.........I bought into their FSO at 65 back in the mid-90s (96 or 97?My failing memory).......I cut my losses at 46 and i have never forgiven myself since the damn thing turned around and headed north thereafter.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

I guess it's a loss only when one sells. Holding large chunks of KQ bought at 46 and Mumias at 14. But if you count opportunities lost as a loss, my worst is offloading EABL at 53, a stock that has since done a 1:5 split and the current price is in the strastophere.

Bought Total at 27 waiting for the swing and sell at 32-33 region. The thing came tumbling down I exited at 24.

Got into Expess Kenya at 13 and tyres(Sameer) at 11 bob. sold both counters on same day at 6 and 8 bob respectively. Thank God the volumes were low.
